I tried to access the pcenginefx forums a moment ago and got this error message:
11/13/11 - Sorry everyone, but the forums are down for the foreseeable future. Don't know when they will be back up :(
I went to the main site (http://pcenginefx.com/main/) (not forum) and there's no mention of it.
Anyone know what's up?

Well that stinks. I only recently registered. I don't visit often, but it's basically the only place where people talk about the PC-FX so it's nice to pop in now and then.

Update:
PCEFX suffered an attack similar to the attacks that SEGA-16 suffered earlier this year. The host pulled the plug on the forum side of things since the attack happened by exploiting a security hole on that side of things. The host is willing to continue hosting the site, but has demanded a restructuring. It seems a good number of users have migrated to NEO-GEO.com and I've already passed the word along there. If anyone wants to make donations to help with the restructuring, they can be sent to pcefx@pcenginefx.com

What exactly does "restructuring" entail, by the way?
I'm logging into Paypal as we speak.

Thanks nec. Where did you get the update? I see nothing on the site.

the mod Nat talked directly to the site owner. From what was said "restructuring" is fixing the security loopholes that were used to take the site down, etc. Someone more knowledgeable on the tech could answer better I'm sure.

Oh bloody hell. No one should be donating a dime to Nanto. The guy had advertising on the forum as is. If he is so concerned with the cost, he should just use a free forum service or whatever. If you guys are going to flip the bill, then the control should be handed over to the people playing the money man part.

Do we need to think about preparing for the worst and making a new dedicated PCE forum? If so what are the alternatives...are free forums like forumer.com any good or would it be best to have someone with the resources to host it for us?
PC-ENGINE HELL
11-14-2011, 05:15 AM
You should have had a alternative to pcefx in place a long time ago. Aarons Ad-o-rama.com shouldn't have been the only joint in town. You cant continue to leave all that information gathered on the forum, let alone responsibility to care for it, all in one guys hands and expect it to end well. Especially when he was already contemplating getting out of it prior when he started selling games en masse.

Hey Guys its me Windy. I have a couple ideas to get us all back up and runnin. SunTeam_Paul I think you have the premier website for PCE/TG16 if you put up a messageboard and shoutbox a bunch of great recources would be right at our fingertips. The switch would be minimal if your interested in this. Also this could be done at The Brothers DuoMazov if They were interested in hosting such a site. I have put up a temporary shoutbox at the hupack come on over and chat with us :) http://hupack.blogspot.com/

While the pcenginefx.com forums are down, there is a danger of everyone splintering up and drifting off to different places. There's a Facebook group, but not everyone is on Facebook.
Here is a temporary emergency forum for people to post and follow any updates on the PCEFX.com forum news.
http://pcengine.freeforums.org (http://pcengine.freeforums.org)
For all we know it could be back up in a week, or it might never come back up, but if we can centralise the information somewhere so everyone can keep informed then if the worst happens, we can all rebuild as a community together.
Please spread the link to anyone you know who is a pcefx.com forum user so they know where to find everyone.

Thats actually a small matter, and no, I'm not irked about it, its just stupid to think the guy needs donations to keep the place going, because he doesn't, and you are all ignoring the obvious if you think he does. Aaron has been disengaged from that forum since the last Bush was in office, and he has done little to update his website with any new content. He clearly doesn't care about maintaining the forum anymore, other then if it brings him some kind of steady revenue, if even then.
He tried to hint at getting out of it all before he started his game sales, but evidently all that hinting fell on mostly deaf ears. Its not like he owes anyone anything, and he shouldn't be pressured, maneuvered, or guilted into keeping it going. It would probably be best to leave him alone, let him get out gracefully, and get a new forum or two started on your own. Communities don't die when the mayors term is up, they get a new mayor. In your case, get a new forum most of you can agree on.

Buy the german Hardware dvd. Its uncut and has english audio. The official US dvd release is a forced widescreen release, cropping off the vertical sides of the film. The movie was originally a 4:3 ratio film.

First of all, he's not exactly rolling in dough just because there's some ads on his site. Believe it or not, ads don't necessarily bring in money. Also, isn't nectarsis awfully close to the site's owner? I'm sure he wouldn't come here and ask for donations if there was reason to believe nothing would come out of it.
And it doesn't surprise me that he's done little updating--its a forum/website dedicated to systems over a decade old! Except for announcing something new in the indie scene there might not be much to say.
Really, this all sounds like speculation on your part, and you seem to really dislike PC Engine FX for some reason.

Don't mean to derail this thread but just got to ask. What was cut from the US release? And how strange that the German release had english audio. haha Where can I find the German version? Its hard enough finding the english one anywhere but amazon.

Byron isn't that close to Aaron at all lol. Aaron made his intentions obvious for a long while for anyone who cared to pay attention to them. Aaron isnt hurting for cash. He is in a pretty decent line of work actually. Instead of doing updates to the site, or logging in to visit with the forum members, he spends his time on his video projects for youtube, astronomy, and whatever IRL issues he has now, or what else interest him. Can anyone blame him, no. Its natural to lose interest with time, and even more so when it becomes a burden or hassle. All you have done is speculate. Try talking like someone who had been on the forum for years, not seconds. Thanks brah.

There was some gore scenes removed from the US laserdisc and VHS release. They are present on the US dvd though, but as I said, the aspect ratio on the US dvd is not the original one. On the german side of things, Laser Paradise and a couple other companies kinda took the cult horror stuff seriously, so they released pretty solid versions of Hardware, Dellamorte Dellamore, RawHead Rex, etc.

Guys, sorry, but I have to agree with Mike on Aaron hinting on the demise of pcenginefx.com by becoming indifferent to it. Having said that, I don't believe this is the reason why the site came down, however, that sentiment from Aaron is what is going to prevent him (possibly) from relaunching the forum (regardless when he said,"Don't worry, while I am selling all my stuff, I will keep the site going" to paraphrase). Mike, I for one DO remember that. I am hoping for the best, time will tell, but if in the end if it's gone for sure, the community will survive thanks to people like Sunteam Paul, BlueBMW, Sparky, and a quite a few other MVPs here on this very thread.
//two cents
-MG
Let's get a few facts straight:
1) The site was compromised via a security hole in the forum software.
2) The webhost pulled the plug, not Aaron.
3) If the forum is to return at all, it will at the very least be after a complete overhaul, possibly after completely changing software.
4) The forum will not be back online anytime soon. Anyone who was around for the recent SEGA-16 attacks knows how long it took to get back online, and while the restructuring necessary to plug the PCEFX forum's holes isn't nearly as extensive, we're still looking at a large time investment. Decisions need to be made as far as whether or not said time investments are worth it to the site owner.
oh, and...
5) nectarsis doesn't know Aaron from Adam. ;)
If we end up in a situation where the forums won't be returning, I'll make it my duty to ensure that all the technical info isn't lost.
I will pass along any updates as they become available.

Hey guys, I just went to the main PCEFX site (http://pcenginefx.com/main/) and clicked on the forum link. You now actually get a message about the forums being down when you go from there.
So at the very least, Aaron or whoever has noticed the problem. That's a good sign, isn't it?
Someone should convince him to add a link to the backup forums though.
