hello guys. first post and need your expert advise

Hello guys, I am thinking about a fundraiser event that will focus on vintage gaming. Ill give you the idea and you guys throw in your expert opinions on what will be the best way to go about it and any troubles I might have.


Ok, I am trying to raise money for certain events so I came up with a gaming night. I have about 8 huge mint old 80s TV, a few NES systems, x box, PlayStation and a Sega. I will have a donated place for the night/day and set up the systems and just have a gaming night. there will be small snacks and other goodies there. Thats all I have so far. Can you guys give me help to make it a successful fundraiser. Thing like how to charge, how to arrange play and things like that. Thanks in advance.

Yes, add current games. As much as I hate to admit it, when my friends come by, I'll get out my Saturn or whatever, and they'll 'ooh' and 'ahh'... an hour later, they're eyeballing my 360. Retro gaming is niche; if you want bucks, offer it all and use the old stuff to draw the looky-lou's.

The last two years, I have helped organize a fundraiser videogame event for abused children in my home town. There are many things that you can do, it all depends on how much time and effort that you want to put into it. My local event had over 15 vendors selling videogames, as well as over 15 different vintage gaming consoles set up. We also had a nice row of arcade machines set up for free play. I also had the honor of having the top Tetris Players in the world(Robin M. and Thor A.) come and speak at the event. The event was held at a local Red Lion Hotel and Portland Retrogaming Expo paid for the expenses. Nintendoage funded the shirts that we sold. This year is going to be the third year I am doing it, and I owe the success to the show to the people that have helped me put on the show(PRGE Organizers, Nintendoage, Local Vendors, and most of all the 250-300 people that paid to attend the show that supported the cause.

1. Be clear on where your money is going, and make it a cause that will want the most people to attend.

2. I would do an admission of donation. You might not have enough items to charge alot or a set price.

3. What other things can you offer as a draw to your event?

4. Get local support from businesses and people.

5. Craigslist, Facebook, Twitter are your friends

6. Offer a silent auction on videogame related items.

7. Get people to help you organize the event. Doing it alone will only cause you a big fat headache.

You could have little tournaments for each system, charge like 5$ entry fee and everyone gets a chance at playing a game or a few. Manily games that are fast (so everyone gets a turn) and are score based. Ive wanted to do this for awhile, like have an 2600 olympics. Pick a handfull of games and the 3 people who do the best get a small prize, maybe something that was donated. Keep it simple if its for charity.

Also you could break out a copy of Recca for NES or PC engine and see who does the best...
