How'd you get past the drawbridge in the NES game? I tried that game for just a minute and decided there was no way to win.
The arcade game is MUCH different.

The drawbridge is easy: throw knives at monster, duck it's attacks, avoid falling through the weak spots in the drawbridge, kill bats, enter castle.
the hard part is when you get to the moving platforms and the flying skulls are spitting rocks at you, and you have to jump under them, but you always automatically jump too high. @_@

It's funny, the NES game to me is just a crappy platformer that steals whatever interest it can get by using a popular title.
But has anyone here ever played the Game Boy Color version of Dragon's Lair? It's a remarkable achievement. Sure, everything is "simplified" graphically but what a fantastic job at getting a laserdisc game onto the Game Boy!

A better question is, is the DVD version like the arcade game? Is there a laserdisc home version? I could play it on my Laseractive if there is... that would be pretty sweet.

Yes. Actually, all the home CD-based versions are like the arcade game, but almost all of the earlier versions have a scene or two missing (eg, diamond) and have grainier video the farther back you go (eg, Sega CD). DVD is your best bet if you don't have any of them.

Yes the DVD version is like the arcade game.. but there are subtle differences etc. as you're going to have with any port (SegaCD, etc.)
The only good way to 100% get the arcade game on a console right now is to play it via Daphne on a modded Xbox. The current version I have is v0.96 and use it to play Dragons Lair as well as Space Ace, etc. and lemme tell you, it rocks the socks off the DVD versions. :D
Maybe over lunch I'll take some pics of it running.. it's really is pretty awesome :)

I have GBC Dragon's Lair, and it is quite good. As mentioned, an amazing achievement for sure.

Agreed! I spent many an hour sitting on the crapper marveling at the GBC Dragon's Lair. Some of the moves are slightly different but that adds to the 'mini' charm :) It's a friggin top notch title :D

Well.. I said "console" ;)
Of course the pc works great as well (and of course was my first experience with Daphne).. But it's different sitting on your desk no matter how big your monitor is.. vs. playing it on your couch with a nice pad, and maybe on a big screen tv :D
You can do a tv-out with your pc I guess, but there's also the portability factor. It's all good. But personally, I prefer console action 8-)

I believe this has been covered in the not-too-distant past, but the DVD version (as well as part 2, Space Ace, etc.) has serious compatibility issues with a variety of players. You'll input your choice of movement, the game will pause ever-so-briefly, and then continue. It's a relatively small pause but makes for all the difference in the world if you're trying to replicate the arcade experience.
