Final Fight - WTF?

I needed a nice, relaxing game that didn't require me to be any good at it to win, so after watching an episode of the US Street Fighter cartoon I played thru Final Fight.

went in, used about ten continues all told, and mopped the floor with the Mad Gear's ass, and unlocked all the bonuses (this is the Capcom Classics Collection volume 1, BTW)

And then during the ending... Guy beats Cody up then leaves before Cody talks to Jessica.

What the hell, Guy? Why did he beat Cody up? Is this ever explained in the later games or in Street Fighter Alpha?

Guy was jealous that Jessica went for Cody. Even though Cody openly said she's his girlfriend.

I always interpreted it as a playful way for Guy to physically communicate the whole "let me leave you two lovebirds alone" sentiment to Cody. I use to give and receive similar violent affection from an old friend of mine that I use to wrestle and do martial arts with.

It might well be a playful nod to the earlier Double Dragon. In Double Dragon in the arcade, when you beat the final boss with a second player, Billy and Jimmy* must fight each other to the death for the hand of the kidnapped girl. No shit, man. My older cousin use to destroy me every time. I even pleaded with him once to let me win. That bastard just started laughing as he swatted me down with the bat over and over again.

* I am very tempted to change "Billy" to "Bimmy".
