Before I open this, I picked up a Walmart Blue Wii on the Black Fri. sale, is this model backwards compatible or not? If I can't play my Gamecube stuff on it back it goes....

Thanks in advance!

I don't own one, but the rumor is they are done making BC Wii's, or will be soon. I doubt the blue one will play your GC stuff.

From what I understand, the Mario Kart white Wii is the last BC bundle. But the black Wii might do BC too.

Apparently you're right. It seems that the blue Wii doesn't play GC games.

Well crap, dragged out the box and read the fine print,

Not Compatible with Nintendo Gamecube discs or accesories.....

As this model is horizontal vice the old vertical one I was wondering, but no longer, this damn thing goes back to WalFarts....

Thats the key, if Horizontal then it is not Gamecube compaible, not even Gamecube controller ports. The odd thing is it is the same shell with the logo spun around. Good for you to return that junk. There are actually some buying the blue console because of percieved rarity. The rare consoles will be the backwards compatible models.

HEY NINTENDO, THERE ARE WII GAMES THAT USE GAMECUBE CONTROLLERS!!

Imo, don't return it just yet. The blue ones may be hard to come by in coming weeks (e.g. holidays) and could be useful tradebait in those looking for it and offering an older Wii.

The BC Wiis will not be rare. There are easily 50 MILLION Wiis out there that are BC.

The Red Wii systems will be rare, and backwards compatible.

Totally. Glad we got my mom-in-law one for Xmas last year. >.>

The baby blue Wii may not be backwards compatible, but at least it looks extremely fucking gay. :|

Blue Wii problem? I think you might have to go to the hospital for that

I saw a post from you and I was thinking "Blue Wii? Might be a joke about blue balls."

I thought that the no bc models were not for the US quite yet. I thought I heard they were supposed to retail for $99 so was there actually a sale?

I can understand taking away the backwards compatibility but the gamecube controller ports? I hate hate hate how they think we should be satisfied with the wii remotes. Don't they still make gamecube controllers in Japan? or at least until recently. What if I don't want to jump around to play my games? I am supposed to use the uncomfortable wii remote?

Whatever I have my red wii so I am set. Does anyone know if skyward sword will work with gamecube controller?

Skyward Sword only works with a Wiimote with Motion Plus AND a nunchuck.

I managed to snag a new Black Mario Kart Wii Bundle from GS right before the non-BC units popped up everywhere. It's got the GC controller ports and memory card slots on it. :)

Yes indeed. I imagine the Red Mario 25th Anniversary DSi XL will be sought after as well. :)

They've been out for a while now. Whenever that New SMB Wii bundle came out was when they started.

That or hope the game also supports the Classic Controller/CC Pro.

I nearly bought one of these on black friday, but it would have been to resell, and I just didn't want to bother.
Backward compatibility with GC stuff is the main reason I'd own a Wii to start with, and I'd rather have a black console anyway.
