Is there any way to play Sega Genesis and NES games on the PS3? I noticed a couple of YouTube tutorials out there, but both lead to broken links leave me confused.

Thanks in advance.

Those would likely be emulators & roms running on custom PS3 firmware.

Can't link to any of them but you should have no trouble with Google pointing you in the right direction.

Also, there are many Genesis games that have been commercially released by SEGA on both disc (Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection) as well as the PSN Store. The PSN store versions all have online multiplayer which are pretty fun.

Actually, Google doesn't help me much. That's why I posted here. But since you can't provide a link, I'm guessing if I do a little more digging, I'll discover that Sony might not be incredibly happy with some of the custom firmware......

Cross Face Chicken Wing, as useless as Frankies posts might be I'm not sure what you expect, since you have provided such limited details on your situation no one can really help you.

What type of PS3 do you have?
Do you have a modded PS3?
Are you looking for emulators, or commercial games?
What youtube videos have you been watching?

There are just a few of the things that will help you get a much better response.

My LMGTFY link actually points via its results to the dash hacks community/blogs, which is typically a great place to get up-to-the-minute tutorials and software.

Hardly useless if you ask me.

If the OP is completely unaware of the PS3 getting cracked and the start of unsigned code and custom firmware on the system in 2010 he can find some good historical/appropriate info on the PS3 wiki article:

Thanks Frankie. My original post was so vague because I know so little about the subject that I wasn't sure what to ask. The Google and Wiki links you provided seem like they'll get me pointed in the right direction.

No problem. Wasn't trying to be a dick or anything.

There really is copious amounts of information out there on the subject, just poke around, we don't get into the specific "how to" hacking tutorials here, but there are lots of communities out there that specialize in that.

Ha! I never knew that existed before. Wonderful, wonderful. Now, I just have to find a way to use it...

in my opinion if you want a console that can use emulators, go hack a original xbox. its easier and got more emulators for it than the ps3 does.

It's looking like the whole process is way over my head. Guess I'll stick to my old Genesis connected to my 12-inch TV.

It is exceedingly easier to accomplish NES/Genesis emulation via pc. A little time & a couple of cheap usb controllers is a good place to start...

Oh I've been emulating on PC for a while, but I don't care for it much......I just prefer playing games (and watching movies) on a TV.

I'm old fashion I guess.

PSP is also a good choice, though I find its SNES emu to be fairly subpar.

I agree with Blast. The PSP is a good opinion also.

I've always wanted to do this with mine, how technical is it? I know that it also depends on the model.

I'm not sure how they're doing it these days. Back when I did it you just needed some files on a memstick and a special battery.

All I did was look around on craigslist to get one that was already hacked. Then I didn't need to do the dirty work myself. That goes for any modded system. Just post saying you're looking for a modded one if nobody has a post saying they're selling one.
