So, who has the BBA for the Gamecube?

I really don't see it around often for some reason, so when I saw it at Toys R US today I figured I might as well pick it up. Unfortunately I didn't have enough money for it and PSO...doh! But, I figured it would be something I needed down the road anyway, so why the hell not.

1. What other games are out that support the use of the modem/bba other than PSO?

2. Did the keyboard ever come out in the USA? All I ever see are import ascii kb's.

My local Wal-Mart has some Game Cube BBAs clearanced for $25. If anybody wants one and is willing to pay shipping and tax, I'll pick one up for them (perferably Pay-Pal in advance). They had four or five earlier today.

I don't have a Game Cube, so I didn't pick one up. Not sure if that is a good price Wal-Mart is offering or not.

Right now PSO I&II is it for online. There is a Ghouls and Ghosts online game by capcom that has been announced, as has PSO III online card battle. As for Mario Kart Double Dash, it does use the BBA to support up to 8 players via a LAN (meaning each needs a bba, and someone needs an 8 port hub), and for this reason Nintendo will be releasing more BBAs as Mario Kart's November 17th release date nears. In other words, Sell 'em if you got 'em.

There is also a dial-up modem adapter for the GameCube, right? The reason I ask is because I see these adapters at Best Buy and since I didn't see "BBA" anywhere on the box, I've always assumed they were for dial-up use.

Yes, they also have phone modems too.

There was a Datel keyboard "kinda" released in the US. But it was more of just a USB k/b with a GCN adapter on it. It didn't have the nintendo controllers on the side, so it looks quite a bit different from the ASCII version.

They probably are doing it with 4/cube. I could've sworn at E3 they had a setup with 8 people playing on 8 different screens, however. I'm not sure though, now. It may change, so I'll wait until closer to release to check again.

The two adapters are modem adapter and broadband adapter. The initials BBA don't appear anywhere, however the BBA has a hologram on it, whereas the dialup adapter does not.

Picked one up in the US when over there in May, just in case I can get some Kirby's Air Ride, Mario Double Dash or anything else that can use it LAN wise for play. If not, I'll just sell it off (it's stil in the packaging!)...

I really don't buy into these things. It is a temporary thing to play with. Eventually it will become essentially worthless. Much like that 'online' adaptor for the Super Nintendo where you could play people all over in games of NHL hockey and others....


Can that Phantasy Star Online I & II game for GC be played in whole without using that adaptor and linking up with people 'online'? I was interested in the game, up until I just read this thread.

Yes you can play PSO offline,but it isn't half as fun.

In PSO's offline game, I think there's one environment you can play--the Forest. I don't think you can play anything BUT that, and you won't be getting any cool waepons or items. Its a total snore to play offline. If you get the game, get the adapter. Play the heck out of it for a month (because its free), and then if you don't like it, trade it all in, or sell it to someone else.

I personally canceled my subscription when I finished my free month, but then I recently re-upped, and now I'm hooked. Its all I play when I have the time. I don't have a keyboard, and I finally got fed up with not being able to talk to anybody, so I ordered a Datel one. Hopefully it doesn't suck.

Anybody know how playing with a Datel keyboard works? It doesn't have the cube controllers, like the ASCII boards do, so do you just plug it in to the second controller port, or what? I'm just curious.

Yeah, plug it into port 2 & your controller into port 1. (like a DC PSO setup)

Manimal: Why not buy the BBA? You say it will be "worthless" in time. That's the same as asking why buy a PS2/Xbox/GCN/what-have-you; in a few years, you'll be able to buy them for dirt cheap. It's just one more thing people can have 'fun' with right now. Gaming as a whole is temporary, tomorrow something bigger & better will be out and what you bought today will be "worthless" in that market.

Well, when this system is no longer produced, the 'service' will no longer likely be around either. That's what I was hinting at. If the games for it were able to be played standalone, then you could play it now, 5 years from now, or 10 years from now. This won't be the case...

also PSO I II is no where near as fun as the XBOX version as you can just talk with people you are with.. Nintendo fuxxored the last two systems good.. This is the last decade of the Nintendo console.
