View Full Version : Fun Spanish-Speaking PS1 Games?

My neighbors just moved here 6 months ago from Mexico. They have 2 young daughters, so as a welcome present, I gave them a PS1 with a dozen or so kids-rated games. They play it often; even the father does.
And there's the reason for the thread. His English is terrible. He can communicate enough to survive, but not understand anything complicated. I'd like to give him a game or 2 for the PS1 for Christmas that he can switch the language to Spanish, and have him some more adult options instead of only having platformers to play. Anyone know of one or more? Thanks.

At the risk of sounding stereotypical... aheh.
I believe some of the FIFA games on PS1 have Spanish-language menus and commentary. Some Europe-developed games also have Spanish (Spain) options but I can't seem to think of any at the moment.

Thank you, Kitsune! Easy finds there on sports games, probably one or two I've been passing on at a thrift already.
Are there any others? Please keep em comin, folks! This family is really struggling. The mom got teary-eyed when I gave them the console and told her all the games were good for kids. And this is like me giving them $20 and making their Christmas :bday:

How old are these kids? Do they have any Dora or Diego games?

You may also want to check some sites with pirated game lists. A lot of the time, they'll list the languages included - just make sure you don't buy a game that had a fan-made Spanish translation.

I didn't have any, so I doubt it, but the speak English ok, it's the father that doesn't.

Ah. Thanks, for both the lead, and the warning.

unfortunately, mainly PAL region games contain Spanish speaking/menu options.
Maybe some Fighting, Racing, Space Shooters, games like the Tekken series, R Types, Darius G, etc... would be simple enough to understand and more towards an adults taste.
Off the top of my head I think the Spiderman game saw a spanish language release in the us (Like its all in spanish, no language change in menu options) but its fairly rare to find and Sledstorm MIGHT have a Spanish/French/English menu option (but dont quote me on this).
Maybe his wife or kids could translate for you? just have the m ask him what games he likes best, or you could always just babelfish a quick translation asking him what he likes and just print it out and hand it to him...sounds childish but Ive done it a few times with some dudes I work with and they end up appreciating it more rather than trying to play the guessing game about whos talking about what.

Sorry I discounted this suggestion early, Buyatari
I had tunnel-vision of 'games for the dad', and I didn't even think about him and his kids playing these games together, all of them learning more English... Since both the kids are girls, I ordered Dora. Thanks.

Thanks for the possible language variations to check out! As for asking him, I kinda want it to be a surprise, as I think he would feel obligated to buy something for me at that point, and I don't want him to spend any money.
And thanks for the babelfish idea. I always just asked his wife questions, but that would work in a pinch!

Thanks, but it's no biggie. Getting a PS1 out of my way was payment enough :)
