While I am collecting for a museum I also collect for my personal collection. I have went from 1 to 9 consoles, from 3 to 47 games plus 4 arcade stick controllers all in 1 Month. Next months list will include the NEO GEO, Turbografx 16 Express, SNES, Sega Genesis and various games and accessories to go with each. we are not collecting the boxes and mint examples only like we would with Transformers and other toys, we are collecting the gaming items just to have a really nice and large working exhibit. Im doing this all on a small budget, the way we do it is to build on various collections from month to month. we had no vintage games for that section of the museum so we have to play catch up. We will be on games for about 5 months then back to 60s GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats ect. After that, we revisit movie props, original posters, gold and silver age comics and art. we keep going back and forth until we move into our building.

For those of you with large collections, do you go in any specific order or do you just buy what you like when you see it?

I believe you're referring to game collecting but i'm going to post this anyway...

as a hardware collector I just get a feeling that tells me what to get next. All of the sudden I'll be like I need a atari jaguar or a 3do gamestar. Of course though price dictates it a lot, if I'm short on cash I'll go for a console that generally goes for less or if I come across a deal on something I don't have then I'll jump on it. I think game collectors have about the same system that I do.

I just collect what I am interested in playing. If I want a game or a system and I see it for an agreeable price, then I buy it. The reason why I am collecting is that I like having a large selection to pick from.
