I just moved into a new house, which is very cool apart from one small thing. The letter box is too small to accommodate anything larger than a package with single Megadrive cart (no box). So for everything else, they ring the bell ... at 6:30am!!! AAAAH! Even on Saturdays! I think they enjoy seeing the dazed look ...
Oh well. My real question is this. I just got a Megadrive converter cart with the three dip switches, but it's not boxed and there are no instructions with it ... and I kinda need to know the positions to set the switches for the various settings. That is,
Jap --> PAL
US --> PAL
PAL --> US
Jap --> US
Can anyone help me out?

Here are the settings for my Mega Key 2. If you don't have a MK2, odds are the settings will be different. SW# means switch number. BZL is Brazil. PAL also includes French SECAM. SW4 isn't used.
SW1 SW2 SW3 SW4
USA Off On Off *
JAP Off Off Off *
BZL Off On On *
PAL On On Off *

Very odd! I have a boxed Mega Key 2 ... but it has no switches on it at all!! So unless someone has put an inferior converter in my box, something strange is going on there! The only converters I have seen with switches have been the Mega Key 3, and the Nitro Adapter 2. I don't know what this one is, as it came loose. It looks the same as the Nitro Adapter 2 that I used to have - i.e. plain black cart with "Game Adapter" indented on the front, and three dip switches on the back.

I have an original Mega Key and it has 4 dip switches as well. I flipped all of them to "Off" and now it plays all regions (PAL and Jp NTSC) with no switch flipping. Maybe that will work on yours.

A cool thing with the switched adaptors is you can change the language of non locked, dual language games.
Try it with G&G, Revenge of Shinobi etc to get different graphics and harder gameplay.

Oh well, it doesn't seem to matter. The damn thing doesn't appear to work. I just tried it with a random selection of US and Jap games, and tried every possible combination of switches and it didn't work at all. Tried the old trick of not fully pushing the cart in etc. but no joy.
I am going to clean the contacts, because it's pretty grimy, and if that doesn't work I'm gonna have to ask for a refund :/
So, was there more than one type of "Mega Key" produced? It certainly sounds like it! I had a look at my Mega Key 2 again, and it has no switches on, and has a white label on the front that says "Mega Key 2" on it, and there is a picture of it on the front of the box as well. It plays most things ... just not Yu Yu Hakushu, which is why I wanted one of the other converters, because at the moment I have to fiddle around entering a big long code into my Game Genie every time I want to play it. Plus the GG is a bit temperamental.
I just want a decent converter cart again, that will work with all my games so I don't have to fiddle around all the time! :hmm: Still, today's post wasn't a total loss ... I got mint RAM box copies of Vampire Savior and X-Men vs. SF in the post, for £18 each including delivery. Which was nice!

P.S. What's the best way to clean cartridge contacts? I was thinking of using a clean cloth and some white spirit ... any advice?

I use rubbing alcohol and Q-tips to clean em. As for the adaptors, I have a black "Mega Key" with a yellow label on the front and a region key on the label. Works with EVERY game from every region so far.

That sounds like mine, except mine is labeled "Mega Key 2".
I will try to take a pic when I have batteries for the camera.
