Wondering what are some of the most expensive console controllers available for purchase. Classic & current-gen? I know there's some expensive controllers in the PC flight sim market but I'm really just curious about consoles only.

I've seen some high-end USB steering wheel controllers (think they're PS2 & PS3 compatible) in the $1000 range. And then there's the DJ Dao IIDX doubles controller (PS2 & PC) that costs over $1200 after shipping from China with the premium button & microswitch options:

I personally think that anything over $100 is too much for a controller, but that turntable....Jesus! You can get a real DJ setup for the same price!

Yeah the most I've paid for a controller is 75 bucks and its for a rare Dreamcast pad. The only times I would be willing to go over that would be for either the G27 Logitec racing wheel just for the clutch and shifter setup, or if another company someday decides to make another Steelbattalion-like controller for their mech game. :D

If someone makes a controller like Steelbattalion with flight sticks acting as the analog sticks, L1 and R1 on the top, and L2 and R2 on the front as triggers, a regular control pad on the left side, buttons plus start and select on the right side, I'd get it. It'd be perfect for Armored Core 4 and For Answer.

Even with actual triggers on a regular remote control, it's difficult for me to control my boost and quick boost(L2 and R2), while moving and aiming with both control sticks, and shooting with L1 and R1 all at the same time. It'd be much better with its own dedicated controller. USB controller because then could also modify controls for use with the Mechwarrior games.

When I bought the RB kit or the Steel Batalion kits those were pretty pennies at the time. I got an Ion Drum kit for xmas a few years ago, that wasn't cheap either. I've spent much much more on this however, but it wasn't a 'retail' kind of purchase.

I'm not normally impressed by super rare stuff like this but this tickles both my controller lust and PS1 lust. That is amazing and I am completely jealous that you have one of these. Does it actually work or does it use some plug built for pre-release models?

Steel Battalion for Xbox was not cheap if I remember correctly.

The Hori Gamecube/Gameboy Player controllers are rare and expensive.

The Japanese Club Nintendo Mario/Wario/Luigi/Wavebird Controllers all go for around a hundred bucks each.

No.
I have two of those and unless it gets modded there are very few games that work on it. However there is ONE PS2 game that works as true Analog with the PSX Flightstick. As for another rare PSX controller, there is the DUAL ANALOG, a rare controller that is often mistaken for a Regular PSX DUAL SHOCK. I was lucky to get two of these as well!

@ PapaStu - That is a very nice find, does it work on a SNES or PS1? My link also aludes to why Sony went with the strange symbols.

Obviously the Steel Battalion is the most expensive common(in that everyone has heard of it) controller but for me the Japanese Saturn controllers that work on the PS2 are the most expensive. I found like 10 of those at a local import store and slowly started selling them from $80 each to eventually getting $130 for each one. I wish I could find more of those but I sold my last two(and an SNK PS2 controller) for $420 last year.

The controller was designed for use with the NEWS boxes (pre-final and final silicon, but before the systems were greenlit). Mine has no print or molding on any of the buttons or face of the control, only thing to let you know it's Sony is the model# sticker on the back. It doesn't have a controller port that would work with a PS or SNES but the standard PC 9-pin serial port. It basically feels like a SNES controller flipped upside down. If they had stuck with 2D stuff the controller would have worked, it's pretty comfy, but slapping analog sticks onto what it would have become, and there would be uncomfortable and awkward mess.

The most expensive controller I ever bought was the Japanese version pre-order Hori Vewlix stick for PS3. It was about $700 USD to my door. Little did I know they were actually going to release it in the States for only $300. However I used that as an opportunity to get a 2nd one for the 360.

Other than that, the next most pricey "controller" I picked up is the Gyroxus motion chair + 1 ps3 + 1 360 interface.

The Analog sticks were an add on later, maybe the reason why Sony flipped the layout in the final production?

Wait a minute. Do you mean a 15 pin PC Joyport or the older 9 pin 2600/Genesis connector? Okay I'm real curious if this actually would work in a 2600 or Genesis or even a PC. I'm having thoughts of Bleem on the PC or a SNES emulator.

@ StealthLurker - That Motion Chair is phenominal. It screams for a round of Space harrier and a bigger stick! :eek 2:

I picked up a Darkstalkers Saturn/PS2 pad last week for $30. It was loose, but good condition.

Authentic Saturn USB controllers seem to command a pretty penny too, although the knockoffs are nice.

You got a really good deal on that controller. That was one of the two I sold in my last lot.

I purchased it at the notoriously overpriced Videogames New York shop in the village. I was shocked when I saw it, asked them to confirm the price and then asked if it was broken or something. It works like a charm and is in generally good condition. They saw no value in it for some reason. Whatever...

N64 Hello Mac controller:

Still almost 5 days left and bidding is over $700. As a N64 collector, I think this is ridiculously overpriced, but apparently it is one of two or three known at this point. I'll stick to the traditional NP100 / Millennium / DK Banana...

Is that just a gray controller with a sticker stuck to it? Am I missing something?

According to this article (http://n64controllers.wikia.com/wiki/Hello_Mac_(ハローマック)), it's just a black and grey controller with a sticker on it. Hmm, I wonder when someone is going to start printing Hello Mac stickers and sticking them on regular black and grey controllers to sell at a high price.

If I had gray/black controllers and the ability to print stickers, it would start very soon :D

I think these are exactly the same as the older iON pads, but just with a 200% markup.

Right before Cobalt Flux went out of business, the started making crazy-expensive "institutional grade" pads & equipment for schools which were basically the same as their regular ones, but with a few small mods. And they also made this beast:

http://www.mansionathletics.com/cobalt-flux-pulse-dance-system-w17536-exercise-wellness-interactive-rehab.html?channelid=Google%20Products

Really though, if you're planning on spending this much on a hard pad, you might as well just buy the full-size arcade machine. You can easily buy one for under $2000 now.
