I'm not even sure how Bastion won those awards. And why did Minecraft win? The game isn't even new, the award should've gone to a more recent indie game.

Skyrim is a huge overrated piece of gaming as well.
While I did enjoy it and it's still a solid title, it's no better then any project Bethesda has put out before it. 7 or 8 of 10 at best

Really vga's, no Dark Souls? Much more entertaining and varied game than Skyrim was; it would have to be my GOTY and RPGoty.

of course this is all strictly IMO.

Wow....just wow.

Seriously-best handheld/mobile game is Super Mario 3D Land? Don't get me wrong, it's probably a great game (don't have a 3DS to try it) but I have a hard time believing that out of all the mobile platforms that there wasn't a game that meets or succeeds this title that was released this year.

Thank goodness I don't have cable to even be remotely tempted to watch this.

There were no real surprises here with the exception of the best 360 game not being a console exclusive. And while the show may not have been overly great, it was a million times better than the clusterfuck we got last year.

After seeing the list of winners, I am glad that I didn't watch it. I can't quite put my finger on what makes it seem wrong, but maybe the blandness and obvious nature of it? I feel like an awards show discussing games that everybody doesn't already know/own would be a lot more interesting...

I haven't watched this commercial -- I mean, awards show -- in a year or three now, but it sounds like the same steaming pile of shit it's always been.

Not to give the VGAs a pass or anything for its failings, but I can't think of one awards show across entertainment that isn't a piece of shit. They're all pretty fucked, but at least the Oscars and Grammys mean something in their respective industries. Nobody in videogames cares if you won the "Badass Game Award Sponsored by Taco Bell."

I just fast-forwarded everything that wasn't a game footage. On that note, I really liked the Alan Wake's American Nightmare trailer.

I think Fallout 3 deserved Game of the Year in 2008, so even if Skyrim doesn't truly deserve it in 2011, I just consider it payback for screwing up in 2008. :D
