For those of you in the Xbox 360 Dashbaord preview program, some of this stuff is old hat, but for the rest of us, today's launch of a dozen new applications on the Dashboard is all brand new. Beyond the addition of YouTube, FiOS TV, and TMZ (can we give that one back?), Xbox 360 users get access to MSNBC content, iHeartRadio (actual radio!), and a handful of other services starting today.
Though we expected as much, certain services are region-specific and thusly will only be available if you live in said region (Rogers On Demand only exists in Canada, for instance, as it's a Canadian cable provider). Head past the break for the official list, regions and all.Continue reading Microsoft launches YouTube, TMZ, FiOS TV apps and many more on the Xbox 360 today (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/13/microsoft-launches-youtube-tmz-fios-tv-apps-and-many-more-on-t/)

Neat.
Always nice to have another box that streams free web content in an optimized fashion.
I have yet to see how the 360 YouTube player works, but I've come to prefer stand-alone/streamlined YouTube APPs to navigating the mess that is the actual YouTube website.
I have a great LG Blu-Ray player that has a YouTube app that does some type of CRAZY awesome up-scaling voodoo on YouTube videos that blows away any full-screen resolution, and streaming/loading speed that I can get out of YouTube on any of my PCs, iOS devices, etc. I don't know what the hell the tech is or what it does, but I love it and it typically impresses the shit out of most people I show it to.
Here's hoping the 360 YouTube feature is as good as that!

it's just more reason to get xbl gold... unless they come up with a xbl platinum which you would need to use all the new stuff... damn i can see that happening now...

Don't give them any ideas!
It's like if you bought a pc (or mac) and microsoft (apple) made you use their app store to buy the YouTube app.

Back around when this was first announced, they stated if they'd be open to everyone or just gold members for each component of it. The YouTube app was supposed to be one of the things available to everyone, not just gold members.
Too bad since I'd of liked to of tried it out. Let my gold subscription lapse several months ago. Guess I'll have to wait until I get the itch to reup for another year.

While it's nice using the Youtube app on a big LCD the lack of upscaling is pretty bad. Some videos are worse than others but hopefully they release some patch to clean up the clarity atleast. Also, while I have over 400 videos in my favorite catergory it only displays the last 100 I've added on the XBL app. Thats another thing I hope they eventually change.
I tried TMZ, iheartradio and a few others and they have potential to keep me away from my pc longer(along with all the other apps) but some of them are still pretty limited in content. Again, this is something that I'm sure will be addressed at a later date.

You must be talking about standard def because the few HD videos I watched looked great on my 60". Colors were a little washed-out but quality was still on par with my HD cable.

I haven't changed any of the settings within the app or my Youtube channel but I will check to see if that makes any difference for my set up.

I'm sure the 360 is already upscaling it to whatever HD resolution you've set the system to. It does that for everything else (Unless it's natively in whatever resolution you've selected and doesn't need to be upscaled, or is a DVD and you're using a component connection), even original Xbox games. So I don't see why it wouldn't be the same for this YouTube app.

Yeah, I think it does get upscaled. My new Panasonic plasma tv has an app suite with YT built into it. Looks awful compared to the 360 when playing the same videos.

Excellent. The YouTube app will make it easier for me to get my British panel show fix.

Well, it's free if you already have FIOS data/TV and XBL Gold. It won't sell either service on its own, no.

If it is upscaling it's not coming out very sharp. It's as if the roughness of some videos has gotten even worse. I thought that they couldn't appear any worse than they already look on Youtube but in some cases they do. I probably need to fool around with my settings a bit.

Does anyone know what the point of the Syfy app is? I thought you were going to be able to watch Syfy shows, but all I've found on it is short clips.

It has the battlestar galactica Razor series on there. I know Netflix did not have this for a while. Not sure if they have it now.

Oh boy.
I swear, that is a pointless app. Seems like it's just commercials. Then again, most of the new apps are kind of pointless.
I'm starting to turn into a cranky old man... lol
