correct me if i'm wrong but isn't this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATARI-JAGUAR-CONTROLLER-EXTENSION-CABLE-lead-BRAND-NEW-/190458914098?pt=UK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories _VideoGameAccessories_JN&hash=item2c583c6532) just a vga extender?

It is.

The trick is to find one that is truly 15-pins straight through, which is not as easy as it sounds. Most VGA extension cables (I've tried many) have pins 5-10 connected together via a single wire. If you plug that into a Jag, it no workie.

that's good info to know... is there anyway of knowing if it's 15 pin straight through without just plugging it in and trying?

Word of caution. I bought a VGA extender with 15 pins like the one in the listing, but it was hard to use it as a controller extension cord. Those big square ends are heavy, and tend to fall out of the controller ports easily. I tried trimming down some of the excess plastic on the ends to lessen the weight, but it's not an easy thing (for me) to do. It is possible that my Jaguar has loose ports. However, the regular controller cord never falls out, so I don't know.

Luckily I adjusted my setup so that the Jaguar is closer, so I no longer needed the extensions.

I would email the vendor and ask, otherwise you'll have to check the continuity yourself. Using the wrong cable will short +5v to ground, so you definitely want to check beforehand.
