With Minish Cap being released, and an LttP remake possible 3DS is shaping up to be the best Zelda console.

I'm really glad I got one now. I bought the Zelda special edition with OoT and I really do like the 3D effect. I also just got the 3D Xevious using coins on Club nintendo and that is pretty good, too.

And, I think you are right. If they do a LttP remake I'll be in heaven with this thing.

Full list:

Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island
Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Metroid Fusion
WarioWare Inc. Mega Microgames
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Wario Land 4
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
F-Zero: Maximum Velocity

That's some good GBA gaming right there.

Other than the potential for having saving some money, I have zero regrets about early adoption on the 3DS.

I've been enjoying it, even in the lean times.

The software is shaping up now, and the ambassador software is good.

The GameCube with Game Boy Player is still the system to own if you're a Zelda fan. It offers Zelda (On GCN or GBA), Adventures of Link (Ditto), Link to the Past (Plus Four Swords, although it's multiplayer only in its' original incarnation), regular and Master Quest Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Four Swords Adventures, Link's Awakening and LADX, the two Oracle games, and the Minish Cap.

Too bad they didn't translate F-Zero Climax and include that here. I'm hoping that will see an official release on the 3DS someday when they start selling GBA games (Something we all know they're going to do, although they state they have no current plans to do so).

While there are a few games that didn't interest me in their freebies and I already own what did interest me, I think this was a nice move to reward the early adapters that bought the system before the price drop.

I totally misunderstood and thought this whole time we were getting regular old Gameboy games. Now I'm stoked! That's a good games list. I was actually thinking about playing through Minish Cap again but am having problems finding my cart in my mess :P

Just so you know these games are for Ambassadors only, otherwise known as people who bought the 3DS before the price drop. So if you have a 3DS from after the price drop you won't be getting these games. I couldn't tell this from your post.

I'm sure he'll be able to eventually purchase what he wants. Their wording was to the effect that they have no current plans to make these games available for sale.

That certainly doesn't mean that they never will. They didn't go to the trouble of programming a GBA emulator just to release 10 freebies. I suspect we will see a GBA section added to the download store eventually and for all 10 of these games to be made available over the course of the next couple of years.

Really bad choice that Not So Amazing Mirror was chosen rather than Nightmare in Dreamland. F Zero Maximum Velocity sucks as well. Everything else isn't bad.

I don't really need these though when I own atleast half of them and those same games are also on my PSP.

Aside from Yoshi's Island, I have never played any of these games. I can't wait to download them (I bought my 3DS one day before the price drop, and I didn't have time to return it).

Yeah, but Nightmare in Dreamland is just a remake of Kirby's Adventure for NES. They'd probably rather have a 3D classics version instead.

EDIT: My Bad they are only available in Australia and Japan at the moment, not Europe or North America.

I'd also rather have Metroid Zero Mission and Mario Advance 2 or 4, but hey, free is free.

Also, downloading these will get you post play surveys on Club Nintendo. Now that they are offering DL titles for coins, you can get more free games through the Ambassador program.

At least, I would guess they will offer post play surveys on CN...they did for the NES games...

How can I put this? It seems kind of shabby that they've taken so long with this maneuver that was supposed to compensate those who missed out on the drop.

The NES games have been out for quite sometime now. And for all we know, they've just recently wrapped up development of their GBA emulator.

Doesn't strike me as a bad deal. It has only been a few months.

Eh, they've been behind on most of the framework, archetechture and functionality of the 3DS since day one (lest we not forget, the thing launched without a web browser and online store) so them dragging their feet a bit on this is to be expected.

The good news is that recent updates have been very good and things are looking up in general for the future viability of the device.

Hey, while I'm on the subject, has anybody else noticed that the maximum master volume level seems to be higher/lounder since the last firmware update, or am I crazy?

Awesome. I'm up too early and should go back to sleep but now I want to download these right away. The only one of these games that I actually own in physical form is Mario Kart and that has a lot of replay value so this is a really nice free gift.

Snagged them all before I was off to work.

I've got 10 little boxes to unwrap later today!

They work quite well on the 3DS and are much more bearable than the NES games that were given to us before because these were designed with the small screen in mind where the NES games were not. Still I managed to beat Super Mario Bros. twice in a row on my 3DS so the NES ones aren't terrible or anything.

I would like to see more Game Boy Advance on the 3DS in the distant future as the 3DS has a much more comfortable controller with that thumbstick there. It would make ports of games like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance much easier to control too.

Somebody was telling me that he read somewhere that people have been able to get the ambassador's certificate, even thought they just bought their 3DS recently. Supposedly it is a glitch with the Nintendo servers, and there is some certain way to trick it into giving you the ambassador's certificate, and they they were able to download all the games and they have all the games working, even though they bought their 3DS after the cutoff.

Has anybody else heard anything about this?

I have a brand new, factory sealed 3DS sitting a closet right now (one of my sons's Xmas gifts), and I would try to carefully open it, and try to get the newest firmware, etc, etc, and see if I can get this ambassador's certificate, but the problem is that I haven't seen anywhere on the net of other people talking about this, so I wonder if it's just some fake rumor?

Am I imagining things, or does the color seem really washed out in the GBA games?

Also, you can play them with unscaled graphics by holding select + start while you press A to load the game (same as with original DS games).

Mmmm ... no, I'm not noticing any lack of color saturation, in fact, I think Metroid looks pretty stunning on the 3DS's screen (last time I played it was on the front lit GBA SP).

How about you, have you noticed a significant boost in the overall volume of the system since the latest firmware update or am I imagining things?

I think the volume of mine was already that loud, but yeah I don't think the games look bad at all. I don't see why someone would even want to hold start and select to shrink the size of the GBA screen, but at least when you do that with regular Game Boy titles it shows a border that resembles a DMG-001 Game Boy, and if you turn 3D on while doing do, the game kinda sinks into the fake Game Boy's screen while the fake Game Boy border pops out at you.

I'm disappointed that there aren't save states for the GBA games, like there are for the GB and NES games. It seems that would have been easy to implement.

I also don't understand the message about closing the 3DS not causing the 3DS to go to sleep when playing a GBA game. I haven't noticed this with other game types, did I just miss it? I've never played a DS game on the 3DS, I have a DSi XL for that, so maybe that also happens with DS games, and I just don't know it.

Pretty good lineup, and I think they play great!

Most DS games have a sleep mode when you close the hinge while everything is powered on.

A lot of the 1st party Nintendo stuff has specialized sound effects when you go in and out of sleep mode, we even have a thread about it!

Then it's only GBA emulated games that stop the 3DS from going into sleep mode. I just tried with an NES title, a GB title, and a GBC title. In all three cases, closing the lid causes the 3DS to sleep (the blue power light fades in and out). That's not the case for GBA games, strangely enough.
