So what's the story here? Can someone fill me in? Is this site really as old an organization as it claims?

Absolutely. Twin Galaxies has been doing this since the 80s. All on the up and up and they are generally recognized as the end-all, beat-all of videogame world records and tourneys. Look 'em up on the web for info other than their site. TG has a loooooooooooong recorded history of activity.

Sweet! I'm going to have to poke aorund there. I wonder why so many games have no scores or few scores recorded for them...

Too many games and not enough interest in some of them. After all, everyone wants to be known as the Donkey Kong or Pac-man World Champion. But few people actually play - oh, let's say - Mythicon's Sorcerer to really give a darn about acheiving a recognizable high score. 8-) But I know Ron and the gang would love to see score posted for every game on the scoreboard, and they're now trying to figure out how to begin recording high scores for the new homebrews that are coming out.
Poke around on their site. Lots a cool stuff. And submit some scores and make a name for yourself on there!

Yeah, so few people would want to be known as the master of such an insignificant game as Halloween for Atari 2600, for example.
Erm...
uh, heh

Yeah... the irony here is that my favorite game is definitely MAME Berzerk so that's what I'm going after. The console Berzerks are all held by Ron Corcoran... who just happens to be the guy who sold me my CustomArcade controller I'm using to play the MAME Berzerk... x_x

Three and a half hours of non-stop play. Needless to say, I'm a leeeeetle burned out on the game right now. O_O
