So I recently aquired two used Sega Genesis systems (both first model) and neither work but have different problems. The first one I'm not sure what's wrong. I can't get it to power on because the switch is loose and won't turn over. I think it may just be as easy as opening it up and lining the switch back up. The other powers on fine and even loads the opening from each game (I.E. Produced by Capcom Under License from Sega) but then the screen just goes black. If anyone has any advice on how to get these two consoles working I would greatly appreciated. I picked them up for a steal at $40 for the two with about 6 boxed games and two loose games. Thanks.

The one with the loose switch: it's possible that someone removed the upper case and didn't line up the power switch cover (glamor cap) with the actual switch on the circuit board. Just open it up and have a look and you'll know instantly.
For the unit that boots to the license screen: the fact that you see a license screen is a good sign. I would work on cleaning the games & system thoroughly. I've found that the majority of the time that you see the license screen but the game fails to work, a cleaning is all that's required.

Blow into cart, blow into cart slot.
#2 is now fixed on a per game basis.
