Storing loose discs in CD wallets

Is there any harm to having CDs back to back in CD wallets? I mean the pockets you put them in, there are four per "page". Is it good for the CD to have them like this?

I can't see how it wouldn't be better to store them in factory cases where they don't rub on the disc any. I do store loose discs that way sometimes, but if I have a good case, it goes in there.

The discs can get scratched when sliding them in and out of the pages, at least that's what happens with DVDs that the local Value Village stores in those stupid binders. Plenty of discs I ask to look at are next to perfect except for faint straight scratches that are all going in the same direction across the discs, I hate when discs are stored like this.

I only use CD wallets to store loose games if they don't have much value, will very rarely get used, and are already fairly scratched up to begin with. If it doesn't meet those condition, then I'll probably go with a slim jewel case.

Jewel cases are much better in the case of games but if they are loose games and you have no room for jewel cases then CD Binders aren't too bad, as long as you store the discs vertically. I've stored my data CD-R's and DVD-R's since 2003 in binders and all of them still read fine.

Yeah, I guess I will store the binder vertically. I don't really have space for slim jewel cases with all of those games...

I just reread the original post and realize you meant storing 2 discs per each pouch, back to back. I wouldn't store discs back to back in any holder as that could scratch the top layer, if that gets damaged the discs are ruined. I'd rather not take the chance.

Another potential problem I didn't see posted is damage to the silk screen on the front of the disc. It's an issue I've come across a lot. The silk screen on the front not only works as a label it works to reflect the laser back into the lens. The clear plastic can stick to the silk screen, and pull it off when the disc is removed. So, the laser goes straight through and no data is sent back to the lens.

I believe it's more of on issue where heat would be a factor, like storing in a car.

that happened to me but that was with a cheaper cd wallet. I primarily use cd wallets that have a gauze type backing to the pocket which has yet to scratch a disc.
