GameStop's iOS device trade-in program has been "successful," according to the company. The program, which began in September (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/12/psa-gamestop-now-accepting-ios-device-trade-ins/), allows customers to trade iDevices for hundreds in company credit. GameStop claims customers can receive up to $180 for an iPod Touch, up to $300 for an iPhone and up to $400 for an iPad.

"The velocity of this trade program has exceeded our expectations," said GameStop president Tony Bartel.

The company was unwilling to provide specific sales numbers or details on the program, but informed us it will have more to share with its holiday sales release, which regularly arrives during the first week of the new year (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/06/gamestop-reports-3-02-billion-in-holiday-sales/). The company also expects to see more iDevice trade-ins as consumers upgrade their Apple products over the holiday.

GameStop is moving ahead and expanding the availability of "refurbished devices" in more stores and online (http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/itrade/default.aspx) in the coming year.http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)GameStop iOS device trade-ins exceed expectations (http://www.joystiq.com/2011/12/29/gamestop-ios-device-trade-ins-exceed-expectations/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Thu, 29 Dec 2011 05:15:00 EST. Over here in PR, refurbished iPods actually cost just a bit less than new ones. Why in the world would people buy them used?

People never cease to amaze me.

When iPods NEVER go "on sale" and deals are typically slim to none, any money saved is an advantage.

I gave $150 for a used 4th Gen 8GB Touch for Christmas off eBay-and that was just the unit...no cords or anything. I overpaid I'm sure, but I still saved close to $50 off a new one.

If GameStop is giving as much as they are in trade in value, that should speak volumes about what the actual used market value of iOS product is. Read: very high.

Personally, for anybody in the market for a discount on iOS product, I recommend Apple's factory refurbished stuff. It's all got new battery and new external casing/glass, etc.

The stock on what's available fluctuates, so check back if they don't have specifically what you're looking for.

I'd rather sell my iDevices online than let fuckstop make money off them.
