A guy answered my ad in a local free classifieds today and GAVE me a huge lot of Atari games (he wouldn't take money!) Got a bunch of new to me's, some scarce ones, and THIS:

Whoah!

Please oh please tell me someone knows where I can get my hands on an mp3 of the roms. (it plays games from audio cassettes through the tape deck earphone jack) This is so cool!

More about it http://videogames.org/html/2600Stuff/Supercharger/Supercharger.html

I am lucky today! Gotta try this out!

I dunno about getting the mp3s somewhere, but last I heard you can order the Stella Gets a New Brain cd from Hozer Video for $10. This has all the cassettes on a cd, just plug a portable cd player into your supercharger and boom! You're in business.

Hozer's webpage is http://webpages.charter.net/hozervideo/

WANTED
Intellivision, Atari, or colecovision. Carts or parts too. Will pick up.
555 5555

I usually get peole wanting to sell me their Intellys for $70+ , but sometimes I get someone who would just like to see the stuff go to someone who wants it.

I kinda leave out the part where I "sell my dupes on Ebay for far more than I ever pay for them" part.

Thanks captain wrong..I just fired off an e-mail to Hozer.

If Hozer can't provide one, and IFF (that's a BIG IF AND ONLY IF) the Cyberpunks gang says it's OK, I'll gladly copy my SGANB2.0 for you and mail you the CD-R.

If you're talking about converting 2600 roms (.bin files) to mp3 or wav files, then you can just use Makewav from good old Bob Colberts page: http://members.cox.net/rcolbert/makewav.htm. It'll convert them to wavs and of course from that point you can convert them to mp3's, or to an audio cd, or whatever all you want until the cows come home. Alternatively, you can "play" bin files directly through a pc's speaker output (obviously plugged into the supercharger.. not through your speakers) using Chad Schells 'Playbin.exe'. Available on his page: http://www.schells.com/cuttlecart.shtml (version 2.2 I think is the latest version).

However if you're talking about getting Supercharger games *specifically*. Naturally I'd recommend just getting the Stella Lives CD (well worth it) as it has all of them and in the right order with instructions to boot. :) But to tell it like it is, if you search hard enough, I'm sure you'd eventually find the roms somewhere out there.. heck it's the internet and it's huge. And since they'd be in .bin format as well, you can use the programs above for playing them in the supercharger. Either way, good luck ;)

Do any emulators run Supercharger ROMS?

There is one emulator that can run SC ROMs.

And if you're really habing a hard time finding SC, you could look around. There's a couple web sites that has SC ROMs (albeit illegally). One's here: http://www.nostalgia.pl/download/atari2600/

They are in bin format for emulator so you will need to use makewav or other utility to convert it to sound file for playing through the actual SC.

(You can use your computer's sound out port and play it right out of your PC)

omnedon: cool move. How long did you have the ad in before you got a response? I've been thinking about doing this too.

Joe mentioned this in the collectors closet section of tips and tricks. all i need is money to put out an add, and money to buy the stuff.

That ad I placed is free, in a local publication called the "Bargain Finder". They make their money by selling ads to businesses and selling the paper itself. (the paper is thick, and is $3.50 a pop, new every week) Ads are free as long as you are not a business. I am not a business, just profitable.

I've been running a similar ad for about 7 weeks. I started saying I was looking for "everything" old, and I got SWAMPED with kiddies trying to sell me their N64's with games for $200+. BZZZZZT nope.
(Anyone elso notice the pawns could shingle their roofs with N64's?) I got more specific and it helped. Apparently I can't ask for 'non-working' consoles, because the paper considers that a "business" tactic.

The ad has yeilded me (so far) 2 complete 2609 IntelliVisions, with 30+ complete games each (one with original box) for $35CDN each. And now two Atari 2600 sets, one complete with box. The boxed one cost me $40 (16 games plus manuals and owners manual), and this last one, was of course free. :) I keep what I don't have, refurbish them so they are in perfect working condition, and Ebay 'em. This and other local sourcing have become my primary method of increasing my collection.

About half the calls I get are people asking for Ebay premium price or more. Those people get to continue enjoying their Intv's and Atari's.

I've made business cards up, that I'm distributing to pawns and game shops, saying I will buy busted stuff. That's still a new thing. We'll see how that works out.

Just got two CD's from Hozer today. Hozer is a cool seller, fast ship and great prices.

My Supercharger is awesome! The Frogger version on the disk is amazing! Far better looking than the Intelly version. I love this thing, the most impressive graphics I've seen on the 2600 ever.

I can't recommend one of these Superchargers enough.
