Classic Gaming Expo 2K12 Announced!

The countdown has begun! Mark your calendars for Vegas this summer as Classic Gaming Expo returns to The Plaza Hotel for another tour through videogaming's rich history on August 11th and 12th, 2012.

We visited the Plaza early in the fall of 2011 after hearing that it had been COMPLETELY renovated. Skeptical, we toured around without announcing ourselves to discover that the casino didn't smell like smoke, the rooms had all been given makeovers, and the ballroom where we had hosted this show many times before years earlier was torn down and being re-designed. We came to discover that the hotel is under new management and all of the brand new furnishings meant for the aborted "Fontaine Bleau" Casino on the strip were purchased by The Plaza. New features have opened as well, including Swinger's Club, Oscar's Steak House, Island Sushi Grill, Exposed and more, many of which will create some interesting dynamics with our attendees. Though the sign by the loading dock doesn't look much different, it's message and what's inside certainly rings true. This is NOT the same old Plaza!

At this point I would like to deny (in fact, PROTEST) that the CGE organizing committee was not given a sample of this product. They weren't actually open yet though, so maybe we still got a shot at it. My hair is long.

We already sent in our booth reservation on the day it was announced and are fired up to go! I did Xmas in Vegas and went to the Plaza to get a tour of the new facilities in order to report back on it to CGE 2012 attendees and prospective attendees. A full review will be up in the February show along with pics and vids on the show notes page, but briefly let me comment that the hotel is pretty much as Joe described and that the paint was still literally drying in some areas when I was there. We also will have pics and reviews of two great new hangouts on Fremont just a few minuets walk from the hotel, Insert Coins bar-arcade and The Toy Shack retro toy store that will be up then as well. This is going to be a great year at CGE!

Been looking forward to this for a few years. Couldn't afford it in 2010, was sad that 2011 was non-existant. Thankfully, 95% of my X-mas Hawaii trip is taken care of. So should 99% be able to make this.

I booked my flight and hotel today. I'm going to be exhibiting this year, recreating Nintendo World Championship and Nintendo Campus Challenge. Should be fun. Can't wait for the show.
