Get your grains of salt ready, we're about to report on the potential release of another Shenmue (http://joystiq.com/tag/shenmue) title. Speaking to French fan site Shenmue Master (http://www.shenmuemaster.fr/) at the Toulouse Games Show (not to be confused with the other TGS), Shenmue maestro Yu Suzuki expressed possible interest in obtaining the Shenmue license from Sega.

When asked exactly who owns the license, Suzuki responded that the license currently belongs to Sega. That said, he added that "we can obtain the license from Sega," presumably speaking on behalf of his company, YS Net. Of course, that's not a direct confirmation that YS Net is actually pursuing such a transaction.

Even if it is, there's no guarantee the license would be used for a true Shenmue sequel anyway. After all, the last Shenmue project turned out be a (recently shuttered (http://andriasang.com/comzjx/shenmue_world_dead/)) social game. See the English translation of the interview after the break (skip to 9:40 for the question regarding Shenmue's license).Continue reading Yu Suzuki expresses interest in obtaining Shenmue license from Sega (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/06/yu-suzuki-expresses-interest-in-obtaining-shenmue-license-from-s/)

I read this article and was excited for a very short period....the first 2 games...while classics in my eyes...commercially it did mediocre at best and I don't think he would be interested in making a game to purposely loose money. Also for one to enjoy said game, they would need to of played the first two..which means all 3 games would span 3 different consoles. That right there is enough to alienate a lot of people...maybe we can see the ending in some other format? such as an animated film...or lower budget XBLA/PSN downloadable final chapter.

Shenmue would be a good candidate for one of those HD re-release packages. If it's marketed right and does well, it could pave the way for a possible sequel.

With the Sly trilogy, I don't think there's any question that the HD collection expanded the number of people who have played the games and appreciate the games.
