So I'm planning on getting a PSP-3000 here soon, and along with that I'd like to get a composite cable to use it "controller style" on my TV. Since the official Sony ones come in blister packs, there seems to be little "collector's value" in getting an official one. I've seen some generic ones on eBay for cheap, very cheap, and was wondering if anyone has used these and can comment on the quality. I know not to expect them to be the best thing ever, but if they're at least acceptable I might consider saving myself the money.

Generic cables work fine. I purchased two for around $5 each after shipping. Works good. It's like purchasing a $50 HDMI cable or a $5 HDMI. Works the same.

Oh. Also not aware if composite cables even work on the PSP at all. Component cables work though.

I don't know but I just ordered one for under $4. I need it so I can record the gaming footage. This will finally give me the motivation to try beating the PSP games I have. I have the component cable but don't have a good way to record the footage so it makes me not want to get into it yet.

Yeah, I'm talking about the composite ones that are about $5 shipped. While I agree with you on digital cables (your HDMI example) over 6-12ft, bad cables can still be bad cables, especially for analog ones at that price point. Either way you've convinced me to take the risk.

It's my understanding that the PSP-2000 can only output games via 480p component, but can do 480i composite on video and the menus, but the PSP-3000 can do 480i composite for everything.

what? are you saying I just bought that cheap composite cable for nothing? Grrrrrrrr. I guess I'll see if you are right and find out the hard way.. I'm having issues with my drive door anyway so maybe i'll be best getting a modded 3000 so I can skip discs and avoid that issue long-term and even output emulation to my TV screen.
