I have a upright 2-gun Revolution X cabinet. It worked fine for years but now it has a problem.

When I turn it on, it usually goes thru what I describe as a "warm up" where on screen it shows the board with all the (I assume) video chips on it booting up. They turn from a blinking yellow to solid green when things are fine. Each chip has a number inside its onscreen square (V38, V62, V69, V79, V87). Some of them are now booting up and turning red, meaning (again, I assume) they're not working because now the game looks like shit. Some of the video images are just blobs on the screen. It looks like a shitty pixelated PS1 version of itself and not even that good. I've tried reseating the connectors to see if that made a difference to no avail. On the Diagnostics Screen, the letters are all blocky and very hard to read from what they used to be. I don't know how else to describe it.

The sound is still perfect and the game is still functioning right/playable. The guns and buttons still work and make their corresponding sounds. It just is having video trouble. I'm not familiar with how to post pictures here or I'd show you what it looks like.

Anyone have any ideas what could be wrong and what I can do about it? I'm a real novice at these units and will probably need a good bit of explanation for any repairs. I've thought of replacing the board but the game was made in 1994 and they're getting scarce short of buying a new one. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried reseating the roms? That's the most likely culprit based on your description.

I have no idea how to this. Could you please explain a little more in depth?

I'm assuming I'll have to disconnect and pull out the board from inside the cabinet but I have no idea how to reseat the roms or how to get them off the board to reseat them.

You can pull the board out if you want to, but it's not necessary at this step of the process. If you look closely at it, you might see that some of the chips have pushed themselves out of their sockets a bit. Carefully pushing them back in should resolve the issue. You might take five minutes and push them all back in to be sure, then fire the game back up, see if that gets you back to normal. You can pull the board and pull each chip to inspect them for corrosion before reseating them, but if the game has always been indoors it shouldn't be an issue.
