The art of game design is a subtle, delicate craft that requires expertise, dedication and ingenuity to truly master. It's a skill that also goes largely uncelebrated, considering that the best game design is often unnoticeable when properly implemented.

Sequelitis, a new YouTube series from Awesome Series creator/animator Egoraptor, takes a hilarious look at the philosophy behind game design by comparing an original title to one of its sequels. The latest episode (above) takes a look at the differences between Castlevania and Super Castlevania IV, and how changing the whip and jumping mechanics fundamentally altered the game's structural underpinnings. It's a fascinating and remarkably entertaining way to learn about game design, so be sure and check out the first two episodes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aip2aIt0ROM&feature=list_related&playnext=1&list=SL) when you're done here. http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Egoraptor's Sequelitis analyses Super Castlevania IV (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/29/egoraptors-sequelitis-analyses-super-castlevania-iv/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Sun, 29 Jan 2012 12:00:00 EST. I couldn't finish the video. The narrator/cartoon host is obnoxious. He is also not at all funny.

Awesome, I was wondering when he was going to put out a new one.

Not bad. I certainly don't agree with everything he said. Namely that Castlevania 2 was a dumb game. Despite that, he made quite a few great points that I never really thought about.

I really enjoyed the second sequelitis: Classic Mega Man vs. Mega Man X. Great editing style, I laughed throughout the whole 20 minutes.

I played through Castlevania IV in its entirety back during halloween and I have to admit I'm now torn as to which game is my favorite in the series. Previously, I was very clearly in favor of SOTN. SCIV just has everything a Castlevania needs, all in one concise package.
