Hi Guys,

I need to clarify something. I have picked up a Sony PVM 2950 and I want to connect my PAL Snes to it. I have ordered one of these: http://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/sony-pvm-scart-convertor-bnc as the Sony PVM only has BNC connector for RGB.

Can I just buy a regular PAL SNES SCART cable and connect it to that or will the cable also need an LM1881 chip to work?

Thanks

I don't see any need for a sync stripper here so long as you're using a PAL SCART cable made by Nintendo. Worst case you might have to rewire a SCART cable a bit but you'd only know after you hook everything up.

Why in the world did you think you'd need a sync stripper?

I was having someone make me a cable and their putting an lm1881 on the cable. He did a cable like this for me before for a commodore 1084s monitor cause it needed it. Not sure if its the same case with the sony pvm.

This is all very confusing for me :o

It is still confusing for me and I do RGB mods. The LM1881 might be necessary if the display you're using cannot use composite video for the SYNC source or C-SYNC if it is available. From what I've seen on N64 RGB mods is that C-sYNC works best in terms of picture quality but most displays seem to find both usable. I'd imagine it is similar with SNES RGB output.

Yeah, im not too sure. Really need someone who uses a pal snes on a sony pvm to confirm.

You don't need it for a PVM, the SCART cable I use for my SNES mini and Super Fami works fine.

Not unless you mod it, it's very easy to mod for both RGB and S-video.
