BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE YEAR 2011

Man, we were REALLY disappointed in 2011!

One title pulled in the most votes in ANY category this year.

It should come as no surprise that when the gaming public waits 14 years through several sporadic promises of greatness yet to come, that expectations will be a bit higher than practically any triple-A product could ever possibly deliver on.

Unfortunately, and somewhat expectedly Duke Nukem Forever was NOT a triple-A title. While it wasn't a complete technical disaster, it was squarely grounded in antique FPS conventions that could not stand up to other modern entries in the genre and '90s era machismo that came off more hateful and cringe-inducing than clever, self-aware parody.

For many of us who still have a soft spot for the ol' Dukester, the good news is that developer Gearbox reportedly still has more in store for us and these sins may yet be atoned for.

But for those of us who are less forgiving and who waited patiently for Duke Nukem Forever we found ourselves playing what was essentially an examination of why Duke doesn't really "work" in 2011 the same way that he used to in an era where FPS games were more rudimentary and protagonists weren't as cool/chatty/clever as they are today.

Looking for disappointment? Always bet on Duke.

I'm surprised Dragon Age II wasn't a nominee, considering it's prequel, and how it almost felt like a completely different game at times.

Duke Nukem was disappointing, but a playable game I'm sure. LA Noire has no fun in it whatsoever. I paid $20 for the complete version and still felt ripped off. I didn't think about LA Noire though when listing nominees but I voted on it once I saw it listed.

The problem with Duke being "Biggest Disappointment" is that it was absolutely impossible for it to live up to it's development cycle. 14 years? No way in hell.

I personally loved the game, but then again, I knew exactly what I was expecting. Though i was very disappointed in the modern "Carry only two weapons" crap.

While I doubt it would have bested Duke, Dragon Age 2 would have been on the ballot if it were nominated in the category.

Nominations were open to all for several weeks, so, any disappointment in the game not making the list rests squarely in those who failed to participate in the process.

Because it was nominated. Not everyone was pleased with it, you know.

It wasn't nominated.

Again, the OTTOs are user-powered, community-driven awards from the nomination process onward. If you think that something is great or that something stinks, there are nomination categories for all of it. If you weren't aware of it last year, be a part of it next year!
