Sounds like an amazingly novel idea! I will try it! Thanks!

Before I got a second gamepad for my Sega Genesis, I used to let my friends play as Tails in Sonic 2 using a one-button stick.
I played two player Golden Axe that way as well, although it was a bit of a handicap not being able to jump or use magic.

Of course, once I had the genesis pads, I never used that stick again, not even on my 2600 or Amiga.

I've rocked a little Sonic with my 2600 joystick many moons ago. All in all, it was a quirky little novelty.

Yeah a few years ago I think in 2009, Sonic Retro was talking about the anniversary of Sonic 2's release so I decided to give it a full playthrough with the Atari 2600 joystick. I managed to beat the whole thing with all emeralds collected, but it was a close call. It was kinda hard beating that last boss with no rings so I played the same way I do when I use Knuckles to beat Robotnik - very patiently.

I wonder what it would be like playing Doom with the Atari joystick.

I used a 2600 stick on occasion. I remember doing 2 player races in Lotus using the joystick since I only had one gamepad (I believe you could set it where backwards would activate the brakes, or perhaps I just managed without brakes)

The only game I remember playing on Genesis with an Atari controller was SMS Alien Syndrome using a Power Base convertor, because that game does not like Genesis pads.

It's not an Atari 2600 controller, just one of the myriad of 3rd party sticks, I originally bought it to play a GI Joe game on the Commodore 64.
