All these crappy videogame movies got me thinking.
What video game would make a good movie? Not anime now a real movie with actors.
These 3 I'd like to see...with minimal effort they could easily become the best 3 videogame movies ever produced.
The Legend of Zelda (Action Adventure)
Silent Hill (Horror)
and
Grand Theft Auto (Gangster)

I don't think a Zelda movie could ever live up to my expectations, I don't ever want it to happen. Warcraft on the other hand has amazing potential... keep it in house at blizzard and make it a full CG movie just like the WC3 cutscenes. It would be absolutely astonishing.

Fallout.
FALLOUT.
Fallout... and Fallout.
I think Fallout might make an excellent film.

I think movies based on Howard Scott Warshaw's E.T. and Raiders Of The Lost Ark games for the 2600 could be pretty spectacular. If you could get Steven Spielberg in on 'em - and I know this is kinda far-fetched since he's an A-list director, but stick with me here...uh, hey, where'd everyone go?

There will be no good video-game-based movie. Just like there will never be a top-notch game based on a movie. This is the way of marketing.

Actually, Roger Ebert just gave the new Tomb Raider movie a decent review (Three Stars)... here is the link: http://www.suntimes.com/output/ebert1/wkp-news-lara25f.html

I think Metal Gear has the best hope, but the concept has kind of been done to death by Hollywood allready.
What about a live action Final Fantasy? Or one of my favorite PC games -- System Shock?

Isn't there supposed to be a live action pac-man coming out?...or did they cancel that based on the stupidity of it all?

About a month ago IGN had a list of all the movies that were in the progress, based on video games. The only one I rember though is Max Payne.

Resident evil should have been the one good game-movie. Afterall the game is essentially based on a movie(s).
But, alas not, 28 Days Later is certainly vastly superior to the Resident Evil movie. Plus, some of the imagery in it reminded me of Silent Hill.
GoldenEye is a very good movie-based game. Pirates of the Caribbean is quite good as well.

A recent MAD magazine mentioned this in its "50 bad things about movies" list:
There are great scripts and ideas out there, but they never get anywhere in order to make room at the multiplex for the next crappy movie based on a Playstation game.
Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy.
The way things are these days, look for DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball in the theaters near you.
