I have two Famicom controllers (the original first player with start and select buttons and Hudson's Joycard) that I have swapped out the Famicom cords for NES ones. They work fine on my NES unless I run them through my NES Four Score. When they are plugged into the Four Score, the only button that works in A, which pauses the game and moves right and presses the A button. Why does this only happen when my modded Famicom controllers are plugged into my Four Score?

I can only suggest it might have something to do with how the NES 4P adapters and the Famicom 4P adapters work, which aren't compatible with each other.
If I understand right, the FC supports 2 data lines on the player 1 port and 5 lines on the player 2 port.
So, the FC adapter will return the data simultaneously on seperate data lines (player 1 and 3 on port 1, and player 2 and 4 on port 2).
I think the NES only supports 1 pin for port 1 (used for normal controller input) and 3 pins on port 2 (containing only the 2 pins needed to make the Zapper work, so anything like the Arkanoid paddle that used the pins missing from the NES had to have hardware and software changes).
So the NES adapters will return one button at a time for player 1 (read all buttons on P1 controller consecutively), and then again for player 3 (again, read all buttons on the P3 controller consecutively).

So how do you go about modding your famicom controllers so that they plugged into your NES?

If you are just using an original nintendo famicom controller you can just do a board swap from a nes controller as they are identical in shape & will fit inside the case easily.

It's been a while since I did the mod, but I believe I just took a NES controller's cord and soldered its wires to its matching spots on the Famicom controller board.

Can you now? Good to know. Thank you, sir.

different chip on the controller in the famicom than the NES, same basic I/o's work the same but since they ran more stuff through the controller ports on the nes and the famicom had hardwired controller ports with a expansion for 3rd part or specialty controllers it made it different enough to not work.
i'm curious if it would work on a satellite too
