GB micro is my favourite. It's the ideal size for me.
Something with the same form factor, but a slightly bigger screen. would be just about perfect.
I'm sure there's a Chinese handheld that fits that description, but those things are too hit and miss when it comes to quality.

objectively, related to its release-date: i would go with wonderswan color, lynx, gamegear.
DS is nice too, but really last generation hardware at the time of release.
psp/psv makes no sense to me because the hardware+games are regular console experiences to me. I always used the psp connected to my tv and i wont buy a vita because it doesnt support tv/component-out (+ the fact i dont want to keep cleaning my screen all the time... or use touch controls at all).

DS Lite, you can play all the great Game Boy Advanced games and all the great DS games.

The Game boy will probably be the best ever. But one that I liked a lot was the Sega Nomad. Taking your Genesis carts on the go. Pity Sega add-ons were the beginning of their demise.
