Blatant terrible cash in...FAIL. Seriously some companies must think that consumers are stupid. The Vita can do so much more than an iphone port. What a ripoff.

Ubisoft is in this business to make money so I can see their side to this. The real FAIL would be customers who pick this up for $40 instead of getting it off of PSN for $13. And speaking of overpriced Vita games, whats up with Uncharted costing the same as a new Wii game. $50 for a portable game@_@

The last at least two portable generations have been offering console quality experiences. I've played many many PSP and DS games that felt like full console games in length and quality in an easily digestible portable package. Its no wonder developers who have sunk more time and effort into their games are going to ask for a higher price, and in turn that people are going to pay it for that quality. This argument is old and tired and the only point that you'll see prices decrease or slide back is when the market says "NO" and thus far they haven't which is why you keep seeing console quality games going for a premium on portable platforms.

Isn't this par for the course for Ubisoft?

I was pretty excited about the Splinter Cell HD Collection until the reviews started rolling in and it was revealed to be a lazy port, which pretty much again happened in Splinter Cell 3D. This along with the company's "fight" against piracy make me wary of anything with Ubisoft on the label. I guess the argument would be that they can't undercut a system launch game since people will perceive it to be crap and not buy it compared to every other title available...which means that they should of done something different then charge $40 dollars for a game that is already portable on iOS and already a cheap download title on PSN.

I'm happy to see Ubisoft taking shit on the console side as well. At first I though that they just hated their PC customers but now I see that they have a genuine disdain for all of their customers.

I'm not sure which games you are talking about but this is the first time I've ever seen a $50 regular edition portable game. The highest any DS, PSP or 3DS regular games cost here in the US(that I'm aware of) was always $40. Not only that but even Sony's other first party Vita games are $40. I realize that as time goes on portable console prices across the board may rise but right now Uncharted is the only one going for that increased $10 price, making it very obviously overpriced compared to everything else.

What DS games were console quality?

To me, even acclaimed 1st party efforts like New Super Mario Bros. DS and the two Zelda games felt very much like handheld projects with a traditional handheld budget behind them. Great games, but they hardly struck as me being on even footing with what people expected on consoles at the time. Far from console quality.

I never played something on the DS (And just occasionally on the PSP, most of which did make their way to the PS2 or PS3 eventually) that struck me as being of such high quality that it would've been right at home among $40-$50 PS2 games back 5 years ago. Even fewer that strike me as being fodder for conversion to an HD console (Although some PSP projects have successfully made that transition to the 360 and PS3).

It was a hard sell for me to buy Uncharted along with my Vita, yet I did. The other games were obviously fluff for the launch. Uncharted was more but it is the real deal. It does not play like a launch title, but rather a game a year or two into the handhelkds lifecycle.

I do not see myself biting on many $49.99 Vita titles, espeacially with the lack of TV Out (clearly so they can port more titles).

Thats pretty much my point. I remember back during the PS2 days when people were upset that certain PSP games were hitting 40 dollars versus the 30 and 20 that were the norm the portable generation before. This really isn't specifically about uncharted 10 dollar increase as it is the general thought that portable games should always cost less because they are lesser experiences for you dollar, or maybe I am just projecting years of hearing that exact sentiment into a simple post you've made.

Trebuken: Words

This is entirely up to personal perspective but the line of quality between portable and console games has largely fallen away from me. In the last two console generations I've had just as much fun and more importantly long lasting fun with portable games as I have full console releases. Before the DS and PSP the vast majority of portable games that I played were pick-up and put-down affairs of just something to do for 10 minutes before I get back to whatever I was doing before. Now I feel like many portable games are fully realized experiences just on a smaller screen. The DS and PSP were really just other consoles to me with there own big releases, just with the convince of being able to freely play where I wanted. Its probably just my warped reality but I had just as much fun playing these games as I did any major console release in the last generation or two.

Portable Ops/Peace Walker
Crisis Core
3rd Birth Day
DJ MAX Series
Jeanne D'arc
Initial D Street Stage
Disiddia 1 & 2
Ace Combat Skies of Deception & Joint Assault
Armored Core Formula Front

Sands of Destruction
Hotel Dusk
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
GTA: Chinatown wars
The World Ends with You
Final Fantasy Tactics A2

In this I have barely even touched the DS's library either. I have yet to play any of the Zelda or Mario games on the platform along with a TON of others I would jump on if I didn't have a huge backlog already.

I haven't played many of those PSP games, but several of them are some of the exceptions I was referring to.

I still wish both Ace Combat games would get console releases. At least Joint Assault is on PSN so I've been able to play it on my tv with a PS3 controller via my PSP Go. They would've made fine PS2 games.
