An anonymous reader writes "In hopes of protecting the children of California from the ravages of violent video games, then governor Arnold Schwarzenegger attempted to push through a law that would fine retailers $1000 for each infraction of selling a violent game to an underage child. However, in the wake of appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court, which struck down the law, California is now forced to pay the legal fees of all parties to the tune of two million dollars."http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png (http://twitter.com/home?status=Unconstitutional+Video+Game+Law+Costs+ California+%242+Million%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Fz c6vuD)http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png (http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fgames.slashdot.org%2Fsto ry%2F12%2F02%2F22%2F0040235%2Funconstitutional-video-game-law-costs-california-2-million%3Futm_source%3Dslashdot%26utm_medium%3Dfac ebook)http://www.gstatic.com/images/icons/gplus-16.png (http://plus.google.com/share?url=http://games.slashdot.org/story/12/02/22/0040235/unconstitutional-video-game-law-costs-california-2-million?utm_source=slashdot&utm_medium=googleplus)

One can only hope this leads to California choosing better/smarter leaders in the future. Tax payer dollars should have been better spent than this.

Speak badly about Arnold again and we're gonna throw down. You hear me?

He won't get any political acclaim but atleast he's still in the running for husband of the year.

This reminds me of a quote from Jello Biafra when the politicians who persecuted the Dead Kennedys made a formal apology 10 years later: "let this be a lesson. History is never on the side of the censors."

Maybe the states should get the message now that these laws get struck down every frickin time.

Jello is also the reason you can't run for mayor of California under a fake name... thank you for making a dead kennedys reference... you seriously just made my day...

My pleasure. It's a bit off topic but JB, love him or hate him, is a brilliant SOB with a level of integrity that is inspirational. Whether you're with him politically or not, he was always pro-common sense, pro-individuality, and an advocate for fairness. When I see shady things going on at work, I speak up about it. I'd like to say that's because of all that time spent listening to Plastic Surgery Disasters as a kid.

Okay, back on topic.
