View Full Version : SNES Marathon - 721 games, 3 days, 60+ hours - Streamed live! One week from today!

Hey guys, thought this might interest some of you.
I recently reached a milestone with my Super Nintendo collection, having obtained every game but the Speed Racer/Bike Rally cart, Super Copa, and ISS. It's taken me 11+ years to do this, and I've spent enough time and money on it, so I'm gonna call it good on that.
With that, comes a celebration of my favorite system of all time: a non-stop marathon in which my friends and I attempt to play every game in my SNES collection. It's ambitious, but I think we can do it. We'll be streaming it live for your viewing pleasure. Here are the details:
What: A non-stop gaming marathon, including every game in my Super Nintendo collection.
When: Friday, March 2nd, 12:00pm PST (probably ending sometime in the wee hours of Monday morning)
Where: My game room, and streaming live at http://www.twitch.tv/eric_dude
Why: To celebrate the end of a quest, but also to raise money for my wife's Relay for Life team: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?px=8994950&fr_id=39032&pg=personal
I'll be running direct video out from my SNES, so the picture will be great, and we'll have a microphone in the game room to capture the game audio and commentary. We did a test run, and it seemed to work pretty well, but if you guys have any other ideas, I'm open to suggestions. I know a few people have suggested taking Skype calls during the marathon, so I'll have to test that out this weekend.
One question I want to ask: Do you guys think it's important to go in alphabetical order? I was thinking semi-random would be better, so that we can sprinkle in the boring sports games here and there, instead of running into a clump of Madden games. What do you guys think?

Definitely spread out the good games, most of the best games on the system are tied up in the "C", "F", and "S" blocks.

Yeah, if somebody wants to sell me the MBR/SR combo cart for less than $500, I would appreciate it. :D
We're only going to be able to play each game for about 5 minutes, so we won't be able to really dig into RPGs. I'll at least try to ensure that each game already has a save file started so that we don't have to sit through long intros.
Now that I think about it, I could probably make "games that start with Super" into their own pile, heh.

When all is said and done you def have to make a sped up version of the video that plays the whole thing in like 5 to 10 min... well not that I think about it that might just be a 5 to 10 min blur... that's a lot of games to smush into that amount of time...

I might be interested in watching, regardless. At some point I've been hoping to do streams of games run through the actual SNES hardware, but my plan's gonna focus on ROM hacks, fan translations and Satellaview soft running on hardware.

This is going to be so epic. Do you plan on taking small sleeping shifts wile merc plays a few games, then wake up, play a few more while he gets some sleep? because I think some sort of psychosis sets in at 24hrs of no sleep.

Hahahaha, maybe if we can edit to be closer to the actual mark. It'll at least be 62 hours. Still a great idea though.

So glad to hear it, man! I'm pretty sure it will be cool. Perhaps not for all 60+ hours, but if nothing else, we'll be going strong the first day or so! Hehe.

As far as how we're keeping them organized, we just have a "done" and "not done" pile. Pretty simple.

It's a good idea, but the video keeps on hanging while playing. I'm on broadband and usually don't have problems with live streams. :(

I was thinking there would be an issue with that too, but I haven't had any issues with it yet. I have been checking in, off and on, since around 8 pm pacific time and it has always come right up and played continuously.

It's still doing the freezing thing... :( In comparison, I just watched a few minutes of a live video on ustream and it ran just fine without any hanging.
I'm on a relatively shaky wifi and have had no issues with any freezing or other streaming/video issues since you guys started.
I just keep it running in the background and check now and then. I'm "dcorban" since Zing was already taken.

Yeah, we are getting very close to the end of this. Almost done with "Super" games, then onto "T". Should be done by midnight tonight. I am running on the least amount of sleep I've had in a long time. Come tune in for the finish, and donate if you can. Thanks to all the chatters/supporters/watchers!

It was definitely fun reliving my child hood! Congratulations on your collection and your donations. Unfortunate that it ended 1 game too early. What a coincidence though!
I can say it now though. I watched almost every SNES game played in all of it's glory.

Also, the power outage right before the last game would almost be tragic, but really it just makes a better story. I'll probably stream ZAMN tonight anyway, just to show fate who's boss.
edit: Just decided. The final game will be streamed tonight at 7pm PST. Might do some encores if people want, too. :)
