What is this recapped you speak of?
He’s referring to replacing the capacitors on the motherboards of the systems.
4664
The ones that I think need it most are the Turbo Duo and the LaserActive/Sega pac, the caps on those are prone to fail like the caps in the pic.
Thanks a lot for the compliments! :) I will certainly keep searching for more great games and rare products! <3 It also seems to be a good month so far for finding stuff!
I'm never posting in this thread again.

An independent game shop opened up my town this month. Actually, it's the first dedicated game store to open up here. My town is so small we don't even have a EB Games, just a couple of pawn shops and antique/collectibles stores.
I emailed the owner over the weekend to ask what his trade values were for a bunch of stuff I had. He gave me a decent quote, so I went down today to check out the store. I traded my stuff in, including a few things I've trying to get rid of for months, and used the credit to order a copy of Tales of Graces f.
The store doesn't have much stock yet. But the owner is planning to get more stuff soon. He also has a bunch of TVs and systems set up so you can try games out before you buy them. You can also pay a fee if you want to play games for an extended period of time there. The owner was cool though, and let me try out Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia for a short while.
I've asked the owner to try and find a new or used copy of Eternal Sonata for the PS3, so that may be my next purchase. Overall, I'm impressed with store, and I hope it stays open for a long, long time!

Got a SCPH-79001 Ceramic White PS2 for $17, Windows 7 Ultimate X64 System Builder OEM for $8. I'll probably be getting rid of these soon though my mom wants the PS2.

Damn, a Laseractive. VERY nice find. I pray it still has the original inserts for the tray as they are easily broken during transport. Take good care of her as very few exist and not a single LD-ROM title has been dumped to my knowledge.
And yes, I've seen Laseractives first hand that have had their lives taken by bad caps. 9 times out of 10 they just need to be cleaned and swapped out but most people who do this don't have a remote clue how to take apart something as complicated as a Laserdisc player end up destroying the tray. Luckily for my Pioneer CLD-1580K I know just how she likes it. :vamp: (and yes I do cheap recapping jobs using high quality capacitors. Just finished extensive work on a JVC X'EYE)
All I've scored this month was a $5 GameCube and found a new way to remove sharpie off an OoT cart. Best score so far was a $5 prototype XBox controller.

With Game/Gamestation going bust, this is a great time for bargain hunting! (Not so much for the staff :( )
Today I picked up:
Wii:
Battalion Wars 2 £1.99
Pikmin: New Play Control £1.99
Sin & Punishment: Sucessor... £2.99
PSP:
Sonic Rivals 2 £2.99
Lumines 99p
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 £1.99
Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley £7.99
Don't actually own a PSP but those deals were too good. I shall get one in the near future.

I can't find much of anything anymore. Not even music! It's that bad!
I did buy another VHS deck, a JVC S3912U S-VHS. It was five bucks. Finding a VHS deck with native S-Video capabilities is very rare so I figured, why not. Also, the other bigass VHS I bought a few months back doesn't like some tapes (it squeaks) so a backup wouldn't hurt.

They seem to sell for $40-$80 eBay. Weird. I didn't find the remote, but I've got my Logitech one so no biggie.
You're not the only one that has found a nice VCR lately. I found a six head Toshiba. Pretty sure it works too. Five bucks.
Guess I should be able to get at least $50 for it? Remote came with it.
I grabbed some other awesome loot too but it's in my car.

Stopped by a Unique where I found the following for 29.64 after tax and Tues. discount:
http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww75/evanwink42/Finds/58478346-orig.jpg
Then went to Savers and struck out. They had a bunch of NES games, but it went something like 2x SMB3 - 9.99 ea, Zelda - 14.99, Link - 12.99, etc etc. They also had 2 NES sets at 29.99 and 34.99. Passed. I did learn today that these two chains are owned by the same company and they are both doing stamp/discount cards that work at both. Oddly, the Savers version gets you 30% off while the Unique one is 25%.
Not really related, but I'm more and more getting a suspicious, negative vibe from these stores. Or, rather, from the companies running them. There just seems to be a conflict between their charitable status and seemingly cutthroat business practices. I dunno how to describe it better than that, and the feeling isn't fully formed at all. Maybe I'm just having a paranoid day.

How much did you pay for the Vesperia Special Edition? If I ever come across it in wild (and have the cash), I'm totally getting this, even though I don't have an Xbox. I just want it for my Tales collection.

Where did you order your LE of the Last Story from? I tried out different UK websites like GAME, HMV, 365game, & shopto.net when I ordered my UK stuff and most of them varies on delivery time and packaging quality. The Last Story LE that I have right now was ordered from HMV and they did an excellent job on securing my package with a solid outer brown box :)

Over the weekend I picked up Wii Sports Resort for 29.97 in a Sears clearance bin. The outer box looked like somebody tried to open it with a boxcutter, but the disc was still sealed and the Motion Plus and sleeve were still in the baggie.
Also found Battlestar Galactica seasons 2.0 and 2.5 DVDs for 4.99 each at Goodwill.

They're owned by the same company as Value Village. They're not a charity like most other thrift stores, they buy items in bulk from actual charities and resell them for a profit. They claim to benefit charities by buying large amounts of goods from them. Really the charities get very little from these stores compared to how much they sell those items for, you would be helping charities the same way if you bought an item from them for $2 and sold it on ebay for $100.
Where I am non-profit stores are tax free so stores like Salvation Army, Goodwill, and independents are all tax free. Value Village charges taxes. They're in it for profit, not for helping those in need.

They do pay the charities for items that are donated to the store so it really doesn't cost the charity anything for those items but they are 100% for profit. What they say is that the charities make more from them than they would from having to open and run their own stores which is probably the case.

I paid about $65 total after using a spare Christmas gift card to pay a portion of the original cost :) I honestly don't have a 360 as well but I couldn't resist a good collector's item ^_^

Everything is too disorganized to picture but here's what I picked up over the weekend:
22 Dreamcast games - $2 each (mostly commons I think but I can use them to fill holes in my collection and pair with systems to resell)
Lot of 20+ Atari games + Sega Genesis console with games + Five NES games - $25
Grabbed this primarily for two reasons: official Genesis composite cable (needed a spare) and two MK-1470 controllers. Plus I can resale the games I have along with the Atari/Nintendo stuff I don't collect and the Genesis will be paired with a Sega CD I just refurbished.
One of my non-gaming finds was a Simac Ice Cream Maker at a local auction house for $35. It's a $100-200+ machine once I get it cleaned up. Would keep it for myself but the last thing I need is easy access to ice cream.
My aunt and her husband gave me two old computers they didn't need anymore since they recently bought a new one. Came with flat screen monitors and everything. Can't complain about free stuff.

At this point, both. Capacitors have a finite life span and I've been seeing more and more hardware from the 90s have them fail. Especially that which has been poorly stored in warm storage areas.
Thankfully when they fail they typically don't take the entire device to its grave but usually see audio/video problems first before something worse that may end up shoving a lot more electricity into the system than it should.

I got mine from 365game. I've talked to them about the damage during shipping and instead of making me return the item to them they actually offered me a partial credit against the cost of the game. I'd rather have a not dinged up box, but when all is said and done a partial credit is better than having to return the item and go through the whole rigamarole.
The collectors edition of Vesperia is sweet, but the whole thing with having to send sign up online in a limited (non published) window to get the second soundtrack CDs was pretty lame on NamcoBandai's part.

Thats a pretty good deal Zama. Looking at the current prices for Vesperia SE, I might be better off getting the Japanese PS3 port instead. It's around the same price, and I could actually play the game, instead if letting collect dust on my shelf. Once I've got the system and the extra cash, I'll have to see how difficult it is to obtain. There's a couple of sites that still have new copies right now, but that may change in a year or so.
Although, if Namdai localizes Tales of Xillia, I probably hold off on Vesperia and get that instead.

Codebreaker for PS2 - $2
That PS2 Codebreaker is weird. It's on a black CD, not a DVD, and it doesn't say what version it is anywhere. The GBC codebreaker won't work on my GBA SP, I don't know if it's because of the GBA locking it out or if it's busted.

My copy of Tales of Graces f came in. I gave it a test run in the store's PS3, and from what I played, it's fantastic! There was actually a specific reason I wanted to test the game.
A couple of people on GameFAQs forums have claimed their copies are freezing at certain points. (See these links: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/604158-tales-of-graces-f/62248311 and http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/604158-tales-of-graces-f/62236255) Most of freezes seem to be occurring during the Childhood arc. I got to one of the cutscenes that they had said was freezing, but I accidently skipped it instead of watching it. My game did continue normally, so I hope that's a good sign.

This has been a particularly fun month for me being ill on and off again, until coming to the conclusion that pretty much the entire left side of my face was inflamed from a series of infections beginning with my ear. I seem to be making good progress, heck, I'm able to write a post that's more than a few words or a link. Here are my finds from this month so far, from a good day now and then. Nothing incredible but it was all cheap.
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2012-03-16%2801%29.jpg
Radio Shack Blackjack and Draw Poker games as well as the little Radica handheld were $4.00 total. One of the Draw Poker games is missing the insert tray and all three are missing the little information pamphlet. Seem like new otherwise. I still have a Blackjack one of these from when I was very young.
Tarot Cards from 1970 were $0.50 and appear to be unused since it doesn't seem like they've ever been cut and shuffled. The "estate" sale I got those from probably would have yielded some nice antiques but there were 50 MPH winds and absolutely no trees or other windbreaks outdoors where the sellers were pulling things out of a beached semi trailer. As soon as they'd take something out it would blow all over and disappear.
Wico Command Control Atari VCS joystick was $3.00 and is NOS. It had the original box but it was cruddy from shelf wear so it got tossed. I was hoping I had stumbled onto a gold mine like when I picked up those dozen or so NOS Epyx 500J joysticks a few wears ago but no dice.
http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/finds/DP-Finds-2012-03-16%2802%29.jpg
Lego Prisoner Transport was $10.00 and was sealed new. They had a bunch of different sets including multiples but this is all that really interested me. Missed a cement mixer for $8.00 by about thirty seconds.
Radio Shack mixer with power supply was from the electronics flea market for $4.00. Been looking for a cheap analog mixing board like this for awhile. Rest of the market was a pretty big bust as last year it kept getting canceled and moved around the campus and postponed while solar panels were installed over the parking lot where it's held. I think a lot of sellers are going to wait until it becomes more established again. I would have hung out longer but that was the morning when my ear / jaw infection pain got out of hand due to the morning cold and I had to split.

Speaking of Lego, the display cases I like for my minifigs finally came back in stock. The back two elevations are accomplished by using a stack of two high 1x3 bricks and four high 1x3 bricks respectively. Bricks are 20 cents a pop if you order online but you can get about 240 into a large container at a Lego store for $15.00. That's all of series 6, all of series 5, all of series 4, most of series 3, a couple from series 2 and some duplicates (musketeers, hazmat workers).

Don't know how bad your box was but as you can see, the one I found wasn't in perfect condition.
I didn't go out today but there are three local yard sales in the morning and an estate auction at 10am. Local auctioneer that owns the auction house I go to a few times a month is doing it. The recently deceased owner was 95 and had lived in a three story house his entire life. Basically everything is being auctioned off tomorrow.
I'm not expecting much but it would be great if I can score some vintage audio equipment. Maybe I'll find a boxed Vectrex. LOL

Kind of a blah day. Skies were clear when I started out early this morning, but by the time I made my yard sale rounds and got halfway through the flea market, it started to rain. Ugh.
Decent finds though... got the first DVD box set of Ducktales (should go well with my Darkwing Duck set) for two bucks, and picked up a cart only copy of Megaman Battle Network 2 for $5. I've been told this is the best one, is that correct?
Oh, and InsaneDavid, do you get those display cases directly from Lego, or is it a specialized dealer? Cause I've been looking for some similar cases for my larger action figs...

Picked up the PC version of "Bulletstorm Limited Edition" from Half Price Books the other day. Brand new, factory sealed for only $6! They had quite a few of them there, too. The irony of it all is that in the used PC games section at the same HPB location, the lone copy of Bulletstorm Limited Edition was priced at $29.99 haha!

^ I've come to the conclusion that HPB is only good for new sealed games. Seems like that is all that's ever priced reasonably anymore.
Yesterday I picked up Fatal Fury Special & Spin master for the Neo Geo AES at $25 apiece. Looks like they're in the $80 and $200 range, respectively, so not bad I guess.

I found a VERY nice Betamax player a few weeks ago myself. Wanted to keep it, but had to sell it due to space.
I'd expect S-VHS VCRs to be worth quite a bit. They're the best lag-free way to record stuff, unless you happen to run into an ED-Beta. They weren't produced nearly as long as standard VHS VCRs.

I did pretty well today. Made $108.50 selling and found some great crap.
500gb Western Digital My Passport - $25
GBA case with charger and two games - $5
Yamaha DD-35 drum machine - $10
Panasonic WV-3320 TV camera - $10
JVC car tape deck - $5
There's only one WV-3320 on eBay and the seller is asking $950 + shipping. The AC adapter wasn't included so I can't test this monstrosity but even if I get $100 for it, I'll be a happy camper. I couldn't resist an old 70's large ass camera and I noticed the Canon lens. Looks like two sellers are asking $100-150 for the lens only so I think I did pretty well. Would like to give it a test drive first but I don't want to spend $30-50 to get a compatible AC adapter. Shame too; I love fooling with these old things.
And a few other small items I left in the car for now. It's too hot to unload things. Grabbed some interesting old PC game for $2 but I doubt it's worth anything.

Yesterday was pretty interesting for me. After checking in with one of my family members, we were cutting up about the dumb luck we all seem to be blessed with. Some of the following pickups reflect that dumb luck in action:
First stop, Owensboro!
Books-a-Million:
Super Mario 3D Land (new) - $20
Book & Music Exchange/Frederica:
nothin' - but I did get a good chuckle at a $120 bootleg Cowboy Bebop set.
Book & Music Exchange/Triplett:
Aladdin: Nasira's Revenge PS1 (complete, very good) - $12 (probably overpaid for this one)
4 of the 5 Sailor Moon Scout Guides released by Tokyopop back in the day (missing Sailor Moon's volume) - $9
The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past/Four Swords strategy guide (very nice condition) - $8
Star Ocean: Second Evolution guide (in overall good shape aside from a very small tear on the top of the front cover) - $8 (already spoken for per a friend who plans to raid the Anime Boston swap meet for me)
movin' right along... back to Henderson!
Book & Music Exchange:
Golden Sun + The Lost Age 2-in-1 guide - $8 ($8 seems to be the going price for about 90% of decent used guides sold locally, might have overpaid for this one too)
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction *Greatest Hits* - $20 (possibly overpaid for this one also AND had it already. oops. LOL anyone want a gently used black label version?)
and...
Ronin Warriors Complete Collection - $65 (yes, the vastly overpriced authentic region 1 Bandai boxset of the semi-obscure '80s anime featuring pretty boys in armor. One of my friends actually mentioned this show in passing, and a week later, I get it at a reasonable price. Go figure.)
Needless to say, the Ronin Warriors boxset made me do the happy dance

Decided to take another chance on the dirt mall this morning, and glad I did. Found some cool stuff, and ran into a couple of friends I hadn't seen since last year.

The Peanuts book and the bartender's guide were a buck each, as were the Snoopy playing cards and the View-master. Not sure what the worth of the view-master is... anyone have an idea? Came with two discs, still in the paper sleeves. I may just end up giving it to my nephew when he gets older if it's not really worth much.
The Gamecube controllers were filthy, and the Wavebird is missing the receiver, but at $2.50 each, how could I refuse. Dismantled and cleaned up the spice controller; works pretty darn good now.

Oh, and InsaneDavid, do you get those display cases directly from Lego, or is it a specialized dealer? Cause I've been looking for some similar cases for my larger action figs...
They're generic cases from Daiso Japan, essentially a Japanese dollar store that has a bunch of locations in the area. Most stuff is $1.50 but the big display cases are $5.00 each. The location close to my home actually quit stocking the display cases so I was stoked to find the larger ones, or any for that matter.

I dunno, considering a similar model (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item3a71a27ba9&item=251014577065&nma=true&pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&rt=nc&si=2fhHH8w74SDTvG9VRD6mzLuaYtA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc) only sold for $20...
Ebay is awful for pricing pro-grade or vintage video equipment. I learned that when I bought a VDR-V1000a Laserdisc Recorder, mine cost me $100, the one on Ebay was $5000 (I think the guy pulled it after the a price hike to $8000) The real value was about 1000 euros at the time (2 years ago). Ebay invariably runs too high or low.

I need to buy several of these cases for my Sons Lego Figures..
we just got three old star wars lego sets in the mail and I buy him a lego set almost every week so the figures are piling up..

I stopped into HPB yesterday and saw those $6 Bulletstorm games. I passed on those and instead picked up a factory sealed copy of Alice: Madness Returns on PC for $9.99. :)

To be honest there is a huge difference between a freaking Laserdisc recorder, and an old shitty obsolete video camera.

If that GBC is indeed new (i.e. factory sealed), then you did not get hosed. At least not on that item.

Yeah I know, there is some minor damage to the box from a partially removed invoice or stock sticker, but even so I do expect to come out on top there, that is why I took as gamble on the MD stuff.

I'm assuming that's a 1602-1 Genesis AC Adapter, and that's not a bad price. I bought a spare one less than a week ago for $5 because I needed one for a spare console I have, I can't bundle it without a proper adapter and I didn't want to wait until I happened to come across one.

This is the problem with "Limited Editions" - ALL GAMES ARE LIMITED EDITIONS!!! Are they still printing the original Xbox Halo 1? No? Well then it was a limited edition!! It seems like every copy of Bulletstorm I've ever seen is either the "LImited Edition" "Epic Edition" or some other special release, but if they are ALL limited, NONE are limited! I have yet to see a "standard edition" of Bulletstorm....AAARGHH!!!!
sorry for the rant... back to finds... of which I have none...

I doubt FFVII GH was really a limited edition. It could still be easily found when they stopped reprinting PS1 games around 2004.
It's just that more people wanted it than FF8 and FF9, which amazon still had new copies of last I checked.

My find for the last week or so:
http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1241.jpg
Microsoft Visual Basic $5
N64 Memory Card
Doom dvd case free
Splinter Cell novel 50 cents
Banjo-Kazooie(N64) $3
Super Mario 64(N64) $3
All of this stuff was from Goodwill. When I took the Doom case up to the register they couldn't find it in any of their disc sleeves behind the counter. They decided to throw the case away since they couldn't sell it without the disc and I asked if I could have it and they agreed. The Visual Basic is probably a couple years too early to be worth anything since it comes on disk as opposed to disc. And from what I've looked up some of those disc ones are quite pricey.
http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1244.jpg
Entourage season 1 dvd $4
Nintendo DS case 75 cents
MP3 Player $1
Super Mario All-Stars/Super Mario World(Snes) $3
Two Super Nintendo pre-order buttons $1
Double Dragon(GG) $5
Alice(Pc) $3
These were from two yard sales and a flea market I hit last weekend. The buttons were an interesting find and the last of the video game swag the seller had left by the time I got there. I didn't really need another DS case(I have two already and two SP ones as well) but I grabbed it anyway. I picked up Alice and Double Dragon at a flea market I didn't know existed while coming back from the second yard sale. I've been looking for a copy of Double Dragon for Game Gear so I lucked out by stopping there.
http://i494.photobucket.com/albums/rr306/THE-1-2-P/GEDC1248.jpg
Mach 5 car with sound effects $5
Gold Gundam figure $2
Die Hard: Vendetta(GC) $3
Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike(GC) $3
I've been playing with that Mach 5 car like I'm still a little kid. Now I need to get a Speed Racer action figure to drive it. I'm not a huge Gundam fan but that figure looked too cool to pass up for that price. He's also too big to fit in the Mach 5. For some reason I never got around to getting any of the Star Wars games for Gamecube last gen. So now I need to continue to pick them up when I find them.

I found a Sealed Fire Pro Wrestling 2 for GBA today. It does not have the H-seam so I am unsure if it is a legit seal or not. Did any GBA games come sealed without the middle seam? No sealed ones on eBay that weren't stock photos so not much help there. Here is a scan of the front and the back, and the top. I think imageshack resized them to a bit smaller than I would have liked but I'll link to them and not imbed anyways:

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/337/fpw2t.jpg top. The bottom has the same type of seal effect seen here.
Other than that I got Trojan for NES $3 and found Major League Baseball 2k12 for $8.98. New game game out a week or two ago but $9 isn't bad for a sealed copy I don't think.

That is most likely a legit sealed copy. I have no sealed games published by Bam!, but if the type of box the game is in has the same type of flap on the bottom as it does on the top, then it's 100% legit. It's hard to describe, but some games were packaged in cheaper boxes. Titles I have that I bought new at MSRP and are still sealed, such as Mega Man Battle Network 5, Mega Man Battle Network 6, Capcom Classics Collection Mini Mix, and Castlevania: Double Pack, all come in those cheaper style boxes and feature the same exact seal w/o an H-seam on the back.

I've dramatically enhanced my board game collection over the past 3-4 weeks. Here is the whole thing as of today (with the arrival of Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit).
About 60% of these games were purchased this month, so I say it qualifies for a March find. :)

Your picture doesn't show the whole top so can't see if it wraps around the side but I have 2 GBA games sealed by BAM! that I bought at TRU years ago and they both have a line that goes over 3 sides 1) just like your top 2) the line gets thinner across one side (for the lack of a better way of explaining) 3) the bottom is just like the top as you mentioned.
I'm guessing it's factory sealed. Your one side is just as I described in 2?

Ok this last one isn't so much a find as it is an unearthing. I bought this Lego Snowspeeder model at disneyland back in 2004 when i was 9, My mom thought i was crazy for spending $130 on it. I found it while cleaning my closet the other day and decided to check it out online to see if it was worth much and holy toledo! It's generally listed upwards $700! Not surprised because it is probably the best lego set i have ever built, the attention to detail is incredible. So I am going to try to sell it because i no longer collect Lego star wars sets :)
