After a friend showed me the link, I have not stopped playing Oregon Trail (http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html)
Question is - has anybody here ever gotten a score over 8,000? There's a few mentions of it online but I've yet to get anywhere close. I capped out at 7,732 with a loaded wagon of food, five alive family members, etc.

Oh man, I wish I had record of my high scores from grade school!
I was an Oregon Trail champ. I'm sure I'd give you guys a run for your money.
Have you tried the iOS/Android/DS update of the game?

I haven't tried the phone versions (still rockin' a Nokia 6133) and I'm scared to get the new 3DS version. The overall reviews for the Wii edition are rock bottom and I'm afraid all of these modern remakes are probably terrible.

On the point-and-click version for DOS I think I've gotten over 12000, but I've not played the AppleII version long enough to really work on my score.

Eh, reviews schmeviews, I think the iOS (and presumably) the Android version is pretty great. I can't speak for the Wii or DS version, but I assume they're similar.

Good question... Have you beaten it with those qualifiers at a grueling pace? I wonder how pace and rations affects score. I nearly beat it at a grueling pace with meager rations once.

Yeah, I just played through the Apple 2 version of Oregon Trail (http://www.virtualapple.org/oregontraildisk.html) and got 8202: Farmer with 10 oxen, 16 clothes, 840 bullets, 3, 3, 3 of the spares, and 1970 food with a full health family and wagon.
8202 is definitely a beatable score (in hindsight I should have lowered my rations to meager or bare bones on the last 2 days, but was worried it would lower our health), but it's pretty high and takes advantage of a non-intuitive style of gameplay.
