volume rates defective console?

so i ordered one of those famiclones from volume rates today and when i hook it up its all in black and white and flickering a whole lot. also the screen is really low and the gameplay is very slow. does anyone else know how to remedy this at all?

That could be a PAL model.

If you own an American NES and the same game it'd be easiest to find out...
