I found this clear lime green PlayStation today at the Flea Market and was wondering if anybody knew anything about it? Assuming the sticker wasn't peeled off a gray one and reapplied underneath, then it does have the official Sony manufacture sticker on the bottom with the model SCPH-5501. My guess is it is grey PlayStation, stripped and replaced with this clear green shell.

It's a replacement system shell from Hong Kong with the Playstation logo sticker and underside sticker transferred to the shell.

Reminds me of the 'this is cool' saturn model. It can be slightly amusing to watch the discs spin in those clear shells XD

Interesting! Thanks for the information, I appreciate it. Now for the big question, are these worth anything? Or not so much being that they are unofficial?

I don't think so, not worth much more than a standard PS1 and only that to somebody who wants the odd colored shell. I sold one with that same green shell a few years ago for around $30 or $40.

Right on, thanks man! That's good to know. I can see a collector totally digging the clear green. I think it is awesome and found it very addicting watching the disc spin =)

I could see it being worth 50% more than a standard PSX... so $30 instead of $20.

you can still buy these shells from ncsx.com's ebay store for 12 bucks.
