Lately I've been going through my collection to properly inventory and organize my video game collection. Tonight while going through my SNES games I picked up Secret of Mana and noticed on the back there is a clear sticker with yellow writing that says "Nintendo Promotional Offer". Does anyone know what this might be? I'm interested to see if anyone owns a game with a similar sticker or has seen it before. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, Nintendo only did this once, during the height of the NES craze, with Dragon Warrior, a game they themselves published.
Secret of Mana wasn't published by Nintendo, so there's absolutely no way this makes even the slightest bit of financial sense.
It'd be nice if we could see a picture of what you're talking about, M.Buster. Best guess is that it's just some sticker some 8 year old kid decided to slap on his copy of Secret of Mana, but a picture would really help.

yeah, its probably off of some other nintendo related product that a kid stuck on the cart. Secret of Mana was never used as a promotional giveaway from nintendo.

Some kid thought "yeah! 18 years from now this is really going to screw with the minds of a bunch of retrogaming collectors!"

I'm thinking you guys are right. I didn't think there was anything too special about it, but now I'm agreeing with the fact that the sticker probably came off another game.

A surprisingly thorough job for a bored 8 year old :D
I think the "smoking gun" here might be the way the printing in the word "offer" has worn off - most stickers of this sort would have the printing underneath the top-laminate, otherwise an unscrupulous retailer could just rub off the "NOT FOR RESALE" text with the edge of a quarter, leaving the sticker itself still on so the cart wouldn't be damaged.
Just to be sure, run a fingernail along the label and see if you feel anything "different" where the printing is. If you do, then it's on the front side and not really much of a clue, but if you don't, then one has to ask how the printing managed to wear off while being glued, motionless, to a piece of plastic. (the answer being that it probably came off when the sticker was originally peeled from wherever it was peeled from)

after seeing the sticker, the text form and yellow color looks the same as a cart in a different thread (which I cant find of course) and the conclusion to that was that the cart came from Nintendo Power or Nintendo's in house library.
perhaps thats the case here? I think the other carts text said "Promotional use only" not "Nintendo Promotional Offer" BUT I swear the text form and color is EXACT.

Like pretty much any other major company, Nintendo would have an in-house graphic designer who's responsible for lettering and "look", so I wouldn't be surprised if all in-house Nintendo labels used similar fonts and colors.
I doubt Nintendo would use Secret of Mana for any form of promotional use - it's not their job to sell Squaresoft's games, and they had plenty of their own titles to be loaning out to crappy magazines and "industry events".

Well, I can probably tell you with some certainty it wasn't from NOA's library...those had barcodes on them. Too lazy to search through old threads, but there's a couple out there on this forum with pics of such. One of them I posted myself, maybe back in 2005.

Perhaps it could be a prize awarded from Nintendo Power's Power Challenge Trading Cards? In the early/mid '90s, Nintendo Power included a random assortment of six cards related to games on Nintendo systems, and each month they had a different set of three that, if collected, could be exchanged for a free game (out of 500 available). They said themselves in the contest details that the game (chosen by Nintendo Power staff) may come from a retail display and say "Not for resale", and obviously this was indeed a Nintendo promotional offer so I wouldn't be surprised if they slapped a sticker like that on the carts before mailing them off.

I’ve never seen this sticker on an SNES game but they’re on a good bit of NES stuff.

The only thing I know is that it would be on the box, not the cart.

Maybe they came from a store, not Nintendo? They might have been running some kind of "buy a Nintendo console, get a free game"-type promotion and used those stickers to identify the games included in the offer.

Well seeing another example of the sticker makes me think it was made for NES games? I imagine someone took it off a box and stuck it to the back of the cart, but who knows. Either way I paid $15 for a copy of Secret of Mana. I'm okay with that. :)
