Hello,
I'd like to share a small project I'm working on. I'm recreating old NES title screens for... well... the NES.
It's just a hobby but I enjoy a lot to do it.
These ROMs aren't interactive and have no sound. They're static screens and I'm only trying to make bigger, more detailed NES graphics for classic games.
If you enjoy this please visit my blog. It's new but I'm adding more stuff everyday: http://mcbremakes.blogspot.com/
You can download all ROMs I've created. I'd love to see photos of my works on your powerpaks.
Hope you like it .
So far I've recreated title screens for just a few games. See some "before and after" screens:

I'm impressed. Good work, I like all of them, except for maybe the cross-eyed Mega-Man at the end. lol

Cool work, my man.
I don't want to crap in you thread, but I enjoyed doing something similar several years back. Looking at it now, the the pixel scaling is a bit ugly on the lettering, but I'm still pretty happy.

I found it to be a good way to learn more about Photoshop and layers and various image manipulation techniques.
I highly encourage others to give it a go. There's nothing like working on something for a game that you really enjoy. :)

I feel very happy for this and all other compliments.

LOL
Megaman used to have a different design when he was created. In Rockman 1 and 2 he was fatter and sort of cross-eyed.
My title screen is based on original 1987 artwork by Capcom - just to create an illusion of authenticity.

It's amazing! I loved it :)
You should try to adapt your modifications to actual Roms!!

The heavy image compression in your preview images ruins it for me.
It's a neat idea, though.

nice work
how much memory are the final results taking up? would these title screens have been feasible memory-wise in the late 80s?

These title screens are big (for title screens alone) - something like the size of the entire Super Mario Bros. 1.

After 4 months there's finally an update: A title screen remake of "The Simpsons - Bart vs. The Space Mutants".
Hope you like it =D

I don't have a Powerpak but many of my previous remakes run fine on it - so I guess this one will run on Powerpak too.
Thanks for reading my posts! :)

Do these new screens take up much more space than the original ones? I'm wondering if the game creators cut corners on the title screens to save space on the limited ROM chips of the time.

Yes... My screens have almost the same size of the entire Super Mario Bros. game (the first one).

I never did a "Friday the 13th" title screen - but it's an excellent suggestion. I'm sure that a remake of it will pop up sooner or later. :)

Wow these screens are impressive. I had no idea the NES could even do graphics in that sort of detail, even if the picture is the size of a whole SMB1 cart. Someone should insert these screens into the original ROMS since rom size is not a concern anymore. Would be interesting. Makes you wonder what could be done on the NES throughout the rest of the games.

He's using 60hz flicker to get false color (the color in the shots only exists in 30hz temporal space). It's an old trick. IMO, the trick works better for NTSC (60hz) and with PAL (50hz) since the flicker is faster. But it's a valid trick as long as the difference between the two frames is small enough in relative areas of change (XOR dither pattern usually looks best). I do something similar on the PCE for horizontal blurring (and thus more colors/palette) and it looks great on the old CRT.
Technically, someone could make an external device that frame captures odd frames and blends them with even frames - by using the composite output of the NES (a pass through). I had thought about that for the PCE many years ago.
