People, now that there's an English translation of WinX68K, you have absolutely no excuse not to try it. I'm telling you, you're going to love the games if you just give it a chance.

I was able to get it when I went to the site, but if I just click the link, that error message appears. :hmm:

It looks like Zophar's BIOS ROM set won't work as-is. Here's whatcha have to do:

Rename BOOT.ROM to IPLROM.DAT
Rename CG.ROM to CGROM.DAT
Rename SRAM.RAM to SRAM.DAT.

Put the three renamed files into the same directory as the single executable in the Zip file and some things should happen. Not much, but something.

Try getting the BIOS files here instead.

Why is everyone having such a difficult time getting this emulator to work? If you would only ask for help I would be more than happy to give it to you.

You can get the bios and some nice arcade ports here:

http://www.gamestone.co.uk/gradius/x68.html

I have barely heard about this system before today, but the emulator was easy to set up and I had some good games of TwinBee and Gradius on the emu :D

Some must try games?

I have no problems getting it to work (downloading it was a different story). At least now, with the translated version, I can see why I was having problems with a lot of games before: I didn't have enough system RAM selected!
I have to say, though, that this was obviously a nice system. There are games done on it that I wouldn't have suspected could be done with a system with such low specs.

Thanks for giving the emulator an honest chance, guys.
I wish I could find a good source of games for you, but the truth is, there aren't a lot out there... the X68000 isn't nearly as well supported by the emulation community as most other systems. However, Romshare.net is a pretty good place to start. You'll have to sign up for an account there first, but Romshare.net (formerly Emuchina.net) has an enormous selection of games.
You're better off downloading the arcade translations... many of the other games are boring and vaguely disturbing hentai games.

I would also recommend the one baseball game I found. '68 Baseball by Konami, they always make a good sports game and this one was pretty good for 80's baseball.

Don't forget Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari. It's River City Ransom with improved music and a map about 5x the size of the original!

...in fact, please try it. I can't find the options screen, so I can't use any inventory.

I'll see what I can do, RedEye.

Why is it called '68 Baseball? Is it really based on the 1968 season? If so, would that be Japanese or American baseball?

How ironic... when RedEye needed help with River City Ransom, he REALLY needed help. As in the HELP key... this brings up the status screen which allows you to use items. The HELP key only exists on an actual X68000 system, but some of the emulators fake it. In XM6, you've got to select it in a list of options at the top of the screen. In the other emulators, you can bring up a picture of an X68000 keyboard by right clicking the mouse... once you've done that, you can simply click the HELP button in the picture to bring up the screen.
Now I'VE got a problem which I hope someone can assist me with... none of my versions of WinX68K work now. I attempted to change the back buffer a couple of days ago, and now the emulator comes up with a "Back Buffer change failed" error immediately after I run it. Is there any way to fix this? I've tried changing and even erasing the configuration file, and that didn't help.

Nope, no such luck, it's not the 1968 season, would have been fun to be Bob Gibson for a game :)

The name of the computer is X68000 (from the processor it uses) so that's why it's '68 Baseball.
