Someone in my region is selling 3 Sony XBRs. All are 28 or 32", all cost about $50 but I was wondering which would be the best pick up to play n64, snes, and sega genesis games on? THe models are The Sony XBR85, XBR200 and XBR250,

I don't use lightguns nor do I hook up anything newer than a gamecube on them,

Let me know your opinions,

Cheers

Charles

i couldnt tell you specifics, but if you are able to test before you buy, take a crappy tv games plug n play. if the set has good av output, then its probably a safe bet you will get good output with s-video or component as well.

The XBR 250 is a hi-scan model, much like the 32HS420 I use.

I absolutely love the picture quality of my 32" HD-CRT. I prefer using it over the 27" Wega that is sitting right next to it in my gameroom/office. Unless I'm playing lightgun games, I'm using the HD-CRT, because everything looks better, even the NES. I gotta warn you though, that television probably weighs about 165 pounds.

So assuming HD-CRT's are better for strictly non-light old school games, would an XBR800 be a better than the 80,200,250?

Judging by what I saw for the 800 series, that's a widescreen rear-projection television, that's usually 40".

Sony lists their television using a numbering system that starts with the type of television (KV = 4:3 tube?), screen size, model and then the level of the board. For example: KV-27FS120 is the model number for my 27" Sony Wega. The FS stands for flatscreen and 120 designates what chipset the board uses. My 32" Hi-scan Wega has a model number of KV-32HS420, which shows that it's a 32" screen designated as a hi-scan tube with the 420 chipset on the board. If all of the model description numbers match, except for the last numbers, you'll want to go with the set that has the higher last number.

The LCD televisions are numbered a little different though.
