HELLO, NON-MARKETPLACE FRIENDS.

I acquired a modded PSOne ages ago in a lot from a user here. I'm now looking to sell the thing but I'm not sure what it's chipped with. Iirc, it'll play imports/backups. Not having any imports or backups, however, I cannot even test the thing proper. WOE IS ME. I've taken the beast apart and snapped some photos of the innards hoping some kind PSOne chip aficionado could help me identify what I've got. Pretty clean work, I think (cleaner than what I've done, anyway). Photos:

MUCH OBLIGED.

I don't know but if you said it plays both Japanese games and backups, a PSOne is something small enough where if I kept a modded one around, I could still enjoy a bunch of burned PS1 backups I have even after selling my main units. How much are you wanting for it?

I could be mistaken, but I believe the six-wire modchips came out before the four-wire ones.
Do you have any PS1 games that can detect modchips?
I used to have a copy of Strider 2 that I would use to determine if a modded system had a 'stealth' chip or not.
If it wasn't a stealth chip, the game would display a warning message and I couldn't play it.

PS1 chips didn't come in that many flavors in terms of functionality, by the time we were on the PSOne I'd assume that was probably a "steath" chip that could handle some of the more advanced protection and/or ANTI-MOD-CHIP protection that Capcom was putting in its last gen Playstation software like Dino Crisis and Resident Evil 3.

Basically the retail versions of those games wouldn't boot if you had a non-stealth mod-chip installed.

If you can boot up a retail version of Dino Crisis or Final Fantasy VIII on that it's safe to call it a stealth chip. Then count how many wires are coming off of it and you can safely say that it's a (for example) "5 wire stealth mod chip".

Of course, let the potential buyer know that you're not an expert and that's your estimation of what you've got.

Thanks for the replies!

Did some research and found a list of games that required a stealth chip to function. Link:

Had a copy of Wild Arms 2 which played without a hitch. By all indications, this appears to be a 6-wire Stealth chip. Mystery (pretty much) solved! A hearty MUCHOS GRACIAS to kedawa and Frankie_Says_Relax, the finest humans Digit Press has to offer. CHEERS.

i was waiting for this one to runs its course because i wound up with a similar sort of thing with a lot of 4 slim systems and 4 standard systems from shop goodwill.
one of the slims had a similar set up. same wires, same color, not as well done and i always wondered. i guess i shoulda tried some of my imports
