I from California's sf bay area. It's seems like snes games are the most abundant. I never noticed this until I started really looking for genesis games. The local shops have racks of snes and even nintendo but at 2 stores there genesis selection was a little larger then a shoebox. Our craigslist is about the same. I also do the flea market thing pretty regularly and hit garage sales when I can.

I could probably break it down like this...(1 being the most abundant.)

1. Snes
2. Gameboy advance
3. Ps2/xbox
4. Nes
5. gameboy
6. Ps1
7. Genesis
8. Game gear
9. sega cd
10. Turbo graphic 16
11. Neo geo (were talkin like 5 games I seen in the past year!)
12. Master system

Oddly since I've been into retro games in the last few years I can't even remember seeing a 32x game.
As for pre Nes systems(atari ect.) I haven't seen any in some time.

Is that just here? I wonder if everywhere else it's more even?
What's your local list like?

In the New York/New Jersey area this is what you would find if you went to local flea markets:
1.PS2/PS1
2.XBox
3.GBA

Practically all the other systems have disappeared. You might find an occasional person selling there entire collection but that happens very rarely.

In the Annapolis, MD area, my experiences have been:

1. PS1
2. Xbox
3. PS2
4. NES
5. Gamecube
6. Atari 2600
7. Genesis
8. N64
9. Gameboy\Game Gear\GBA (about all tied for the same)
10. Sega CD
11. Sega Saturn

I haven't stumbled upon a SMS game for over a couple of years, and Atari 5200 games even longer than that. I have yet to see a single Neo Geo or TG16 in the wild.

Between Goodwill and the local pawn chain...

1. PC
2. PS1
3. Genesis (always sports or Sonic 2 for some reason)
4. PS2
5. GameCube
6. NES
7. SNES

Most seen gaming items seem to be Guitar Hero guitars. Seriously, go to the toys section of your local Goodwill. I can almost guarantee they have one!

1. PlayStation
2. PC (5.25" floppy games for DOS)
3. PlayStation 2

I don't know really know what it is, but I only really get to go to one or two thrift stores, and all I've been finding lately is those DOS games. Not that I mind, I just don't have a PC that old to play them on right now.

PC. :p

Or Genny / NES. but those usually get snatched up by other resellers...

What sort of games do I find the most of? Well, in reverse order:

5. Overpriced ones.
4. Damaged ones.
3. Shitty ones.
2. Shitty ones that are also overpriced and possibly damaged.
1. Sports titles.

1. Sports titles.

No kidding! I would say out of every 10 genesis titles I find 5 are sports and 1 is one of the mortal kombats! Lol!

Between Goodwill, yard sales and flea markets this is what I find the most of:

PS2
PS1
Nes
Xbox
Gamecube
Wii
N64
Snes
360
Dreamcast

I hardly ever find any Saturn, 3DO, Neo Geo or Master System stuff. Actually, I never find Neo Geo or Turbo Grafx items and I think I've only found a few 3DO games.

I've noticed what seems like an inordinate of certain Game Gear titles, such as Sonic 2. the Majors, Sonic Chaos etc. that were pack-in games with the system in my area as of late. I think it's often a case of, kid got Game Gear, got bored with the one or two games he had, and then got rid of said Game Gear before accumulating any other titles

I definitely did this. Got a Game Gear when I was around 11 with 5 or 6 games, didn't like a single one of them, sold the thing within a year. I had nothing against Sega really, but I found even the monochromatic games on the Game Boy much more enjoyable.

Was I the only one who spent his nights staying up late with the Game Gear? In order to play the Game Boy, you had to have a light, and then your parents could tell you weren't sleeping... :|

PS2 sports games like Madden. A few years ago, it was Genesis and PS1 sports games.

By far mostly CD based stuff. Usually original XBox, PS2 and PS1 stuff. I'll still occasionally find some SNES, Genesis or NES stuff at Goodwills and thrift stores but I almost never find 1st gen stuff any more.

I guess it would be ps2, ps1 and xbox sports games.
