I should have known to shut the f*ck up in that other retro game thread. But I was too pissed off at current video games and all their bullsh*t to let it go. And somehow I'm not even surprised this happened because that's the way this kind of crap always goes down...like clockwork.

But I was playing my SNES and rocking Contra like I always do...and I pulled too hard on the controller and it dragged the SNES off the little stand I have it placed in. Well...the little bastard fell off it and came crashing down...and now one whole corner broke off.

blahhhhhhh....it still works like a soldier...because that's what retro consoles do....but blah...it's messed up now. Whatever...I'm still not playing anything but my NES and SNES...and I'll get a another one at some point...but I can't be f*cked to deal with that now. So I'm gonna try tape and glue...

alright...everyone take a moment of peace for an injured retro warrior...

thank you.

P.S. if someone has a broken SNES, send me the bottom cover...

Looks like you need to take it a little easier during the Contra sessions. This is nothing that some super glue will not solve though.

Yeah, Contra III is much easier to take if you huff a little first.

I was actually pretty chill. Like I said...I own that game and was dominating it in the usual manner...but a slight tug brought the whole damn thing down and now my system looks like crap. I'm kind of surprised it broke so easily...the old consoles are beasts at taking abuse and punishment. And I actually treat my systems like a princess...but the little bastard betrayed me and now I'll have to remedy it somehow.

thank you.

P.S. Still looking for extra bottom covers...so if you have one...send it to me.

thanks again.

I'd clarify that this is a request for a favor rather than a demand for something due to you, but then I value tact, which is apparently out of fashion these days. Honey not vinegar, you dig? Also bear in mind that tone is easy to misconstrue in black and white writing, and after your last thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?160696-Retro-games-rock-everything-else-makes-me-sick-it-s-crap) most DP members will be unlikely to give you the benefit of the doubt. To your credit, you did add a "thanks" at the end.

doubt ur going to get a free replacement shell from someone if thats what ur implying, you can find a broken snes on ebay (treismac's link is a fine example, and cheap!) or at a flea market/tag sales sometimes for next to nothing.....and not to go off topic, do u Canadian folks say Flea Market or Car Boot Sale? or is it something new and exciting? thanks.

We call them flea markets :)

On another unrelated note, why are they called flea markets?

Like a spoiled little aristocrat, you're careless with them, treating them as though they're little more than disposable peasants. Oh, wait...you meant to say "you treat them like princesses."

But seriously, I don't understand where you had your SNES if a little pull could have brought the whole thing crashing down, and with enough force to break a huge section of it off. That just sounds really careless.

I don't see what the hell one thing has to do with the other. This is about my SNES getting broken...the other is about the stupidity of modern garbage and how I'll be avoiding it from now on. And "give me the benefit of the doubt" What the hell are you talking about?? If you mean my tone....it is what it is.

I've been nothing but polite and civil. I'm tendentious in my views...but after all...that's what this damned forum is about right? To freely express one's opinions and views on video games. If you mean to imply I have to tip toe my way around here like a f*cking fairy just to avoid hurting some fanboys feelings....well then I think speak for the rest of this forum when I say you're out of your mind.

but maybe I'm missing the genius of your post...so please feel free to enlighten me.

thank you.

P.S. I went ahead and taped the corner back on. I tried super glue but the stupid glue got all over my fingers and pissed me off...so I went with tape instead.

I have a SNES that a friend gave me that had similar breakage issues. The plastic on those things seems to get really brittle with age.

Best way to fix this plastic is using JB Weld epoxy. Once it's mixed together it's just about the same grey as NES carts, I wipe off the excess while it's fresh with wet paper towel. Once it's dry it's super strong and looks close to perfect, you can't clean it off once it's dry though so make sure it's clean before it sets. I use it to fix cracked NES or SNES carts.

What's he fixing, a cracked exhaust pipe? :p

Just plain old clear epoxy will do the trick.

If you can't understand the connection between people wanting to do you a favor and them not thinking you're a total ass, there ain't much I can do for you, I'm afraid.

Yes, yes. You're the darling of Digital Press these days.

Even though it is absolutely adorable for someone with the social skills of the Rain Man to think they're in touch with the community of this forum, let me cast another pearl your way: you don't have to tip toe, just don't crash around like a drunken elephant.

Oh, by the way, nice alliteration with the two sets of double "f"s.

Squeezed and pulled and hurt my SNES, in March 2012.

The yellowing makes the plastic very brittle. If you had Retrobrighted it, it restores much of the original strength of the plastic along with making it look nice and I wouldn't be surprised to see it survive intact if you had done it. But too late for that now.

I still don't understand why you were apparantly sitting so far away from your console that a little tug of the controller was enough to yank everything down. Seems like a recipe for something like this to happen to be playing with so little slack in your controller cable with a system as light as this (Not much risk with a Xbox or Xbox 360 with the weight of the systems and those safety disconnects built into the cables, but not a smart move with something like a SuperNes).

Best way to repair it is to go to hobby lobby and buy the small modeling super glue. You also need to get "accelerator". You spray the "accelerator" on after you glue it and it instantly causes the glue to dry. It is amazing and works in about two seconds. The glue is about $4 and the "accelerator" is about the same.
