neo geo aes or supergrafx?

hi guys! i am torn between neo geo aes and supergrafx because i only have funds for 1. I hope someone can help me which console is more collectible as i know that neo geo aes is more playable and has some of the best games ever.
Hope you help me. Input anything as im sure it will help me to choose =)

Niether. Get a consolized Neo Geo MVS so you can actually play some games. Many of the AES games cost several hundreds of dollars. A few copies of Aero Fighters 3 sold for 30k each a few weeks back.

The CMVS is the way to go, but you have to understand the AF3 game. In terms of the physical cart, it is the exact same ROMs/PCBs as the Japanese Sonic Wings 3, which fetches under $200 or so for the AES version. The reason AF3 sold for so much is that it was basically only rumored as a Western release and those were the first confirmed English releases. So comparing that isn't exactly apples to apples. However, yes, as I mentioned in another thread, the majority of MVS games can be had under $100 with most under $50.

Neither. PC Engine Duo-R. There's some 400 CD games. supergrafx adds under a dozen games, and won't play even any CDs on its own.

THIS. Some of the games are unholy expensive, going to have to sell a kidney level of extreme cost.

Neo-Geo all the way, the SuperGrafx games are good, but not that good, plus there's only 5 SGX-exclusive games made for it.

Thanks so much for inputs! i really think that NEO GEO has it when it comes to the game play aspect. Do you think that it is more collectible than the supergrafx? well im not really that much of a gamer, i mean, i am not really the type who plays for days continuously but i like playing with them regularly.

Well, just a thought. if ever you have a supergrafx would you trade it to a NEO GEO aes? or vice versa?

The Neo is perfect for you then because it only has arcade games. Theres nothing on their that takes days/weeks to complete. You can play a game for half an hour and usually finish it. The real challenge is in mastering the game play for high scores or playing against friends.

Yup ONLY arcade games. Huge specialty in fighters especially. Its most wonderful strength or biggest disappointment. Depending on opinion.

If it doesn't suit the arcade environment chances are it didn't reach Neo. Expect minimal strategy, simulation, adventure, RPG...

Definitely the Neo Geo. Way more games, and better games.

MVS is sweet, but so is AES - if you want an AES don't let anyone talk you out of it.

I personally have a Big Red 6 Slot MVS cab and I love it to death.

Neo Geo AES all the way...i have both, and never touch the Supergraphx, AES is always hooked up and ready for some SVC Chas, and many more classics.

I believe there is an MVS adapter for the AES as well. It is not cheap, but you would save a ton buying MVS games over AES.

The SuperGrafx alone is kinda' irrelavant. It does play the PC-Engine library, which is cool, and you can also get a hu-card adapter and a Super CD-ROM to get some more use out of it.

Ultimately the hardware costs would be similar.

Buying just the Super-Grafx without the attachments would not make sense vs. either Neo Geo option.

Stay the hell away from NeoGeo then... if you actually plan on collecting, then the thing is an empty pit that you throw money into. Yeah, the games are good... but the machine has been emulated pretty much perfectly, and if emulation leaves a bad taste in your mouth, then most of the best games have received good ports to other systems.

SuperGrafx really isn't worth the money... unless you don't have a PC-Engine. There is a ton of awesome stuff available if you have a PC-Engine system with a CD-ROM attachment. But there are better options for that... using a SuperGrafx wouldn't be my first choice (look for a PC-Engine Duo-R or Duo-RX instead).

Neo-Geo if you're realy into fighters but there are shooters,sports,puzzle,run'n'gun and some platformers for it.Though if you got a neo-geo go the mvs route games for it are cheaper then the aes.There's not much point owning a supergrafx since it has just six games,if you realy want a pce then get a duo-r at least.

Btw the arcade system for the neo-geo mvs can be runned at home the board itself can be consolized or run through a supergun.

I guess the one bright side with collecting Neo Geo AES is that the prices never seem to go down. If you buy games for it, you should expect to get roughly the same money back out if it. Just as long as the ones you did buy weren't insanely priced when they could have been found cheaper had you waited.

Its a nice point that supergrafx is not good at all without the other add-ons and that the best games for neo geo are fighting and shooting games which are best suited for a "not really a gamer" regular type of gamer like me!

go for the noe-geo aes. start by getting the cheap games both u.s. and jp like Fatal Fury 1,2, Special, Samurai Shodown 1,2 KOF 95-97 etc.

In my opinion, go for the Neo Geo CD. If you can deal with the load times, it's a much cheaper alternative to the AES. There's one on ebay right now for $90 with 2 controllers and a game. It's also region free, and if you play a Japanese game on a US system, everything's in English.

So you do know that the Neo Geo has a better choice of games for playing, but you want the more collectable system? I guess that would still be the Neo Geo, but once you get past the handful of $30-50 games from the early 90s, Neo Geo games average at about $150-300 per game.

So what are you going to do with this system, play it or collect for it?
