View Full Version : Add a USB port to an Original Xbox Controller?

I've seen a few mods around where people have modded their Xbox's controller ports for standard USB, but I'm wondering if you can possibly modify an Xbox controller s to do the same. What I'd ideally like to do is add an USB port where one of the memory cards would go in order to power a thumbdrive.

I'm concerned that there wouldn't be enough power to supply both the controller and thumbdrive simultaneously. Can anyone chime in?

I don't know, but that would sure beat having to FTP everything onto the original modded Xbox. FTP doesn't seem to want to work on Windows 7 for me.

I've noticed that too. I fired up my OG Xbox a couple weeks back for the first time in a while, and couldn't FTP to it from my Win7 pc. Could ping without any problems, but nothing other than that. Decided I didnt want to put a lot of thought into it, and never tried again.

It should still work if under a virtual environment using Windows XP. I presume, at least.

At one point, there was an official USB adapter available from Microsoft, though I don't remember what game it was supposed to support. I do know that it was free, you just had to pay shipping.

It was for phantasy star online, but a quick googling returned no pictures. I'll try and get a photo of mine later today and can possibly even open it up for you and get some pics inside.

hmm again I'm not sure if this is right or not! This seems to be a tutorial on how to convert a USB thumbdrive into an Xbox Memory Card, which is not what I want. I want a USB Port to interact with XBMC. Is that different? I'm not entirely sure!

That I'm not entirely sure about (I didn't get to big into the Xbox modding seen) but if you say it can be done from a controller port I would assume that that the pins being used would be the ones for the memory card in the port, I could be wrong though. The only thing I cant think of is if there is a tutorial for making what you want at the controller port try to compare the two tutorials and see if it is the same pins being used.

I've got one of the PSO USB plug ins. I've never tried plugging a thumb drive into it. Here is a picture I submitted for mine on RF Generation: http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/gethwinfo.php?ID=U-075-H-00140-A

I used to have a few of those. They're most likely collecting dust in a corner at my friends' shop.
I don't think I ever used them for anything, but they were free, so whatever.
