That's pretty amazing stuff.

So cool knowing that an emulator was actually stealthily locked away in an inaccessible fashion on such a classic game!

Would have been neat if it were accessible via some computer terminal in the game. We've wound up seeing similar things like that in other/future titles like Maniac Mansion Day of the Tentacle (Maniac Mansion) and Call of Duty Black Ops (Zork).

That's pretty awesome. I always love it when nonsensical things are found in games years after release. It gives an odd Indiana Jones style credibility to the myths and legends of the hobby.

You mentioned zork in Call Of Duty: Black Ops... How do you access this game?

I remember in the main menu of the game, you are in a chair. I think you press L2 and R2 repeatedly to get out. When out, find the computer, and type in ZORK. I think that's how it works.

I thought this was an elaborate troll and that the "patch" to unlock this was probably large enough to have a Spectrum emulator within it.

I don't know, is it?

The original post doesn't have any "reveal" on it being a gag.

If it is a gag, it's two days early!

Regardless if it is an Easter Egg or an April Fool's Prank, this is all kinds of cool. :D

Although with the need for the patch, it does make the discovery more suspect while also dampening its coolness.

250k is a huge patch for what the person claims to have changed in the code. The link to download it didn't work so I was unable to download it and look at it, nor do I have the ROM handy to see if the Speccy ROM files are already included in there. I'll have to take a look this weekend, but I wouldn't doubt if this is true. The Speccy was huge in the UK and Rare did write games for it.

The rom hacking link is still active. My thing is that operating the hack is too much of a pain. You need a controller in #3 just to activate it. I don't know, I mean regardless if Rare left the code in or not, it's still quite an interesting hack to "find."

PS: I always miss these things that Kotuku finds for months, because I refuse to go to that website. It's a complete mess of a site, probably the worst web layout/design I've seen since frames were invented.
