so i got to thinking about the NES's expansion port that was never used and the plug on the front of the famicom thats some what used for 3D stuff. i have 2 sets of Famicom 3D setups how ever one i bought over on ben hecks message board doesent have the standard connection on it. instead its got something similar to a Atari controller port, or if your not familiar with that one maybe some thing like a RS232 serial port. needless to say its not going to work on my twin famicom like the other does.

but what ever i have 2 glasses for 2 players that do work. now my thinking is. since one has a box thats already all funky with the wrong connector i thought i would poke arround and see if there is any way to get the 3d system to work directly with the NES. i'm thinking expansion port on the bottom mainly. i have several parts NES that i dont mind messing with that work, just look like complete hell.

i know some what of a useless mod but i already have the parts and i am bored as hell so i figure why not. plus it might be handy for those who want to play the 3d games but dont want to run the risk with their harder to find import hardwares, say for instance a twin famicom or a square button standard famicom. plus if it works possibly a break out board/adaptor could be made.

thoughts?

IIRC, the 3D glasses are driven by the OUT1 pin on the 15-pin connector on the Famicom. I think you'll only need that, and the +5V and ground from the NES connector.

genuine famicom 3d glasses should work on twin famicom. it kept that same plug from the front of the famicom.

No famicom has the nes expansion port. No nes has the famicom expansion port. Both ideas require modding of some kind. (I don't know whether nes2 has enough internal connections to add either port)

While the nes controller port was almost never used in japan. They didn't get them until av famicom in late 1993, under a year before new famicom game releases ended.

i know all that, you didnt read aparently.

i'm going to see if theirs some way to get it to work on a US toaster. it wouldnt suprise me if one of the pins on the expansion on the bottom is what i would need for it to sync up
if not then i will find some place else to hook it up.

That connector is called "DB-9" and on the Atari and Genesis side of things is it is a male connector with the controllers sporting a female connector.

If OUT1 is needed then you'll find it on PIN44. This would be a snap for someone like myself to wire up in an afternoon but I could easily see this going bad quickly. Thankfully ruining that expansion connector won't be the end of the world for that particular NES.
