View Full Version : When You Die

A was reading the thread about bitrot here and it had me thinking about death.

I'm just curious, when you guys go, are games important enough to you that you'd want to be buried with one and if so which one.

Its kind of funny, my wife puts up with my video game collecting but she's really doesn't know all that much about it. I can totally see her deciding to bury me with a Mario cartridge or something else which would cause me to turn over in my grave.

Just in case it's something rare/valuable in your coffin, where are you planning to be buried?

Considering that I want to be cremated, I doubt I'll have any games with me at the time.

Haha!!! I'd dig up a corpse for Nintendo World Championships! Hell yeah, man! No question.

If I die soon (as in unexpectedly) I've told my wife to give it to a close friend of mine who appreciates games as much as me but it's really much of a collector. Otherwise, I'd rather have the rest of it go to the game museum that's kind of being organized.

If I'm old and dead and long gone, I really don't care. Just let my kids keep what they want, and give the rest to a cause for preservation. Actually, there are probably some big ticket items that I'd rather go to preservation than my kids :D

If i die i would like my games to be sold and have the earnings from it be distributed to trusted family members.

Games aren't as important to me as gaming. I think I'd prefer my friends and loved ones to maybe just play a game they knew I liked in remembrance if they felt inclined, as opposed to sealing a cart in with my corpse.

hopefully at that point the library of congress will accept my extensive famicom and famicom pirate collection as a part of history for future generations of game historians to behold. That or the kids or a best friend would get them with the written promise never to sell any and continue passing the collection on...... I suppose a copy of Hebereke can come with me.

When I die, I want one of my cousins to have all of my games. He can then decide what to do with them.

I hope my son will treasure my video games so that I can pass them on to him. Regrettably, none of my friends care enough for retro video games to justify giving them my collection. I'd rather give them to someone who'd enjoy them or to a museum.

Bury me in a Neo Geo MVS game cabinet.

Being buried with anything is senseless, it's not like you can play a game when you're dead. I don't care what happens to any of my stuff when I'm dead because I'll be dead.

I want you to know that you don't have to die for your Famicom collection to be part of a library, Parodius Duh! PM me for my address and I will proudly display your collection alongside all of my books. All gamers who bring snacks will be warmly welcomed to see your collection.

lol that goes for me as well!

In all seriousness though, I'd just want them sold and the earnings donated to a worthy cause like water.org

Bury Rush Limbaugh with a complete LJN collection so they can burn in Hell for all eternity.

I'd sign a petition for that, but I would request that T & C Surf Designs be spared the indignity. I actually like that game a decent bit.

I'd instruct my wife to set it all ablaze in a giant bonfire. If I can't have it, no one will. :wink 2:

But in all honesty, it goes to my wife or kids (whenever we have them), or as a last resort, some kind of local gaming museum, etc.

I was going to say a Genesis clamshell case would work better. You could print your own box art...

It's kind of the same thing as dumper diving.....well, not really but still.

As for me, I don't think I'm going to be buried with any of my games. I'll probably have other things on my mind, like the empty void that will become my mind once I cease consciousness.

When my friend Kinn (Robotron on here) passed away, he wanted his game collection sold off to his friends with the proceeds going to his wife (same with his comics, dvds, cds, action figures, etc.) That's exactly what happened. Everyone who knew him got to walk away with a little piece of Kinn's collection, which was iconic after throwing regular game nights for over a decade, and it went to a good cause.

In my case, if I died suddenly I imagine my brother and sister would get it, and split it up accordingly. Assuming I go down a line where I have offspring, then I'd hope they would have the interest in games to take on my collection and do something with it... if not play it themselves, then donate it to a museum or sell it or something to someone who would.

I don't want to be buried with anything. It's simply ridiculous. I'd rather someone enjoy it than let it sit with my rotting carcass.

half my collection goes to my best friend (who actually always asks if he gets my collection when i die......with a small smile) and the other half goes to my wife

I'm very pleased to have adopted his 2600 collection! I fired up the 2600 just yesterday and played some Springer and Turmoil..

when I die, if it happens while my mother in law is still alive, most of my games will likely be auctioned off on eBay, as she is an affluent seller... my children may keep some things that they are partial to, but most things will likely be auctioned off to raise money for my survivors... my family are aware that some things will bring in a fair amount of money.. such as TG-16 Magical Chase, which was the topic that brought on if upon my demise, that my games be auctioned off!

When die I want to be buried in an acrylic coffin, and I would like a third party to do it so they can verify that it is in fact me inside the casket.

Make sure that you don’t have any tares, scuffs, or dents; they’ll deduct points from your final score.

No. Assuming I still have them, I'd give them to my kid.

Also, burial is a waste of space. I'm going to be cremated.
